Why are people denying the existence of global warming caused by man? There is enormous scientific evidence proving that it does exist. I can only guess that people who deny it are justifying their unsustainable lifestyles thereby avoiding the guilt and being compelled to change. However this seems irrational, can anyone explain?

I don't see what Al Gore has got to do with anything! I believe he has made a film but I haven't seen it. Maybe you should deal with your dislike of Al Gore separately to the issue of global warming.

As long as people get to drive SUV's and feel comfortable using up resources such as energy, they will believe anything. People don't want to face the ugly realities as it means they will have to change some aspects of their lifestyle - it's just selfishness.

And there are large scale entities (companies, political figures) who don't want to see people changing their spending habits so they are more than happy to muddy the waters and spread doubts via lobby groups - as long as the profits keep rollin' in.

Oh and to all those people who think global warming is a natural occurence and nothing to be worried about, why is every government in the world attending many expensive conferences and putting into place many expensive plans if it was just some "natural occurance" - after all, they have access to all the facts - look at the way they are obviously very concerned about it.

Country who uses the most energy per capita in the world - USA

Country who's businesses have most profit to lose from public acceptance of global warming - USA

Country who's ruling political party is aligned with big business - USA

Country with the most people who don't believe in global warming - USA

See a pattern here???

Actually there is not good scientific evidence supporting man-made global warming. Thirty years ago there was an ice age that was supposed to happen about 300 to 500 years ago there was a long period of warming know as the medieval warm period. This was before all the CO2 emmisions were being put out by humans. Also Water Vapor makes up 95% of greenhouse gases and the rest is a mixture. Humans make only 0.117% of CO2 that enters the atmosphere. The rest of the CO2 comes naturally from the oceans, volcanoes, and dying plants. That is why man-made global warming is false and all those people are doing it for the bigger budgets they get for the problem they have created.

Unfortunately, Global warming has not been proven outright. There are many scientists (particularly those backed by the US government) who say that it could be a natural occurence and humans are not as involved as many will have us believe. There is strong evidence for this, as there is evidence of significant temperature increases in the sixteenth century.

Another reason there are global warming deniers is due to the economic cost of providing a solution to the problem. Renewables tend to be expensive and extensive, whilst being less efficient than their non-renewable polluting counterparts. The car and gas industry are also extremely powerful in America (the most powerful and most polluting country in the world) and this has a knock on effect for everyone. Any law restricting car/gas use or making people change their lifestyles would be extremely unpopular to the effected population.

However, if you do not believe in global warming or do not believe the economics over rule the new ideas for sustainable living, then if you are wrong there will be disasterous consequences for the world both naturally, physically and economically. Also, changing our ways could lead to a general better standard of living with less pollution etc.

Because there is enormous scientific evidence that shows that it is not man made as well.

Plenty of green scientists, living healthy lifestyles where they try to lower their energy output -- because irrespective of global warming, carbon dioxide and other chemicals pollute the air we have to breathe and water we drink etc. -- do not beleive global warming to be casued by man. This is a result of studying long term global cycles, geological and astronomical data pointing to natural causes that we have so far had negligable influence over.

This is neither irrational or guilt led, they are simply doing research, and making conclusions they believe to be correct. While it is possible the source for funding can have a large effect on the results, much research is funded irrespective of the answer it supplies and so can be trusted as not being done for the 'vested interest'.

I can only imagine that you have actually looked at the temperature variations of our planet historically since you have gone to great lengths to tell me about your education. But here it is, just to have it handy. The recent glacial retreat began around 14,000 years ago, quite some time before the industrial revolution.

There is not, as you put it, enormous scientific evidence that global warming is occuring because of mankind. It is quite obvious that the Earth has a history of warming and cooling before mankind ever discovered fire.

Perhaps you will want to read the following article taken from a 1975 issue of Newsweek where they discuss the overwhelming evidence of Global Cooling. See how people can be so sure of something that is absolutely false?

And finally, you have asked before why would someone make up Global Warming. Here is one reason:

http://www.carbonfund.org/site/

Another reason? Ignorance. They might be totally sincere about it, but history gives a more accurate, rational record of our planet's climate. We don't really matter as much as you might want to think. Another reason relates to political figures creating a messiah-like relationship with voters. Only THEY can get the planet on the right track so that your children won't perish in the inevitable apocalypse that is coming. Most liberals can see the same manipulation in certain religions, right?

What seems, and IS irrational are people that listen wholeheartedly to politicians and other folks with something to gain about "scientific" issues and don't really make an effort to find out the rest of the story.

There seems to be a common thread with your questions. I can't put my finger on it. I'm sure it's nothing.

Have a great day!

It is also based on a belief in that man was created at the very top of the food chain on earth, just below the angels. It is man's world and if he wants to break it like an angry toddler might break his toy during a tantrum then it is his right.

This is exacerbated by the right's very adept ability to caricature the left as meddling, interfering, latte drinking do-gooders who want to make the world gay, marriage just optional and who want to make you spend all your time sorting through your garbage for freakish interest in the environment being green.

Your average Joe Right as a result is very wary of any claims about global warming. He doesn't want to be taken in by the elitist left and their agenda. It is also comforting to think that God created the world flowing with oil and made the United States the preeminent world power because it has honored him with it's worship and traditional values.

The powerful at the top of the food chain on the right are very good at tossing out issues like abortion, school prayer, and the pledge of allegiance that lower class righties want so badly because it makes them feel secure in exchange for what those in the upper echelons of the right want so badly, deregulation and corporate welfare that lets corporations grind up lower class people and turn them into money.

It all goes together. It is related to why we send poor people to Iraq to die while our gasoline is more expensive than ever. Follow the money.

If you want to obtain supply cash for local weather study, do you feel that you'll be able to get a cheque for those who say," I want the supply, as I feel that I can turn out that the figures that the present paradigm is centered upon are fallacious" ? The best environmentalist, David Bellamy, has been silenced, and refused airtime. There remains to be no verified causative hyperlink among the quantity of Co2 within the surroundings, and an expand in worldwide temperatures. The WWWF pictures of the polar bears swimming have been taken within the Arctic summer season; whilst the ice cap in part melts, as they could not rise up to snapshot within the iciness. The ice was once too thick! The East-Anglian uni study figures. "Oh! The figures do not fit our expectancies. Oh good. Keep quiet. Because we all know that we're correct." When the perception, and the religion is extra main than squarely going through the respectable doubts of plenty of non supply-supported scientists, technological know-how has been superceded by way of devout zealots. As Oliver Cromwell colourfully mentioned." I pray thee, within the bowels of Christ, keep in mind that thou mayest be fallacious."

Global warming is a natural fluctuation in the earths atmosphere and temperature. We have not caused global warming in any way. Some people say we have added more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere i return causing "Global Warming" but we haven't it was dissolved in the oceans and this natural heat fluctuation has caused it to be pulled out of the water. So there is no scientific proof that man has caused this heat fluctuation.

Hope this helps

Some people still think the earth is flat. -allegedly.

Many think Columbus sailed to prove the earth is not flat
-which is absolutely FALSE! But, there is no way to correct that, teachers try to teach children it is false, but the myth survives.
The truth is that Egyptians knew, within one percent, the diameter of the earth since before the Roman Empire. Columbus had a translation of an Arabic book with that information in his library. Ignorance, like prejudice, is nearly impossible to eradicate.

Because is a natural process of the planet. It happen in the middle ages and is going to happen again. We will also go to a cooling process. What ever we do now it needs to be 100% scientifically study a prove, not made from a wanna be like Mr. Gore, and the big corporations interested in our money.
