Depression runs the gamut from totally debilitating to a nuisance that barely affects one's life but can make life unpleasant.

I fyou find that you are so depressed that you can't get out of bed and in to work, that is pretty severe. If you have serious thoughts of doing yourself or others harm, that is obviously worse.

I think it is safe to say that almost everyone feels some depression at one time or another and that is pretty normal.

It is possible to work through severe depression by onesself, but it is probably better to get counseling and antidepressants actually do work without robbing you of being yourself.

depends on how you rate the level of your mood, the length of time the mood lasts, hours, days, weeks, months. Suicidal thoughts are more frequent in severe cases. In minor cases of depression, Suicide is not even a thought. It is a matter of feeling self worthlessness, and your idea of your place in your current surroundings of your enviroment. Severe is dramatic appitite changes, eating alot, gaining weight, or not eating period, and weight loss. Outbursts of tears, stress, self destruction, uncontrolable behaviors, extreme mood swings, sucide attempts, seclusion from others, and many dramatic changes. With the minor part of this, I find that the you have little of the severe signs to have a minor depression. I am not totally sure of minor, I have been severely despressed for so long, I am finding it hard to relate to anything else.
