If you're in the United States, go to the National Do Not Call Registry at http://www.donotcall.gov/ and register your phone number.
If you're somewhere else, specify your location or no one will be able to help you.

Do you have a "Do Not Call" list in your state? That seemed to help in Michigan. Another method is to tell each caller that you want to be taken off of their calling list. This usually takes a while to be done. Another way is to answer your phone and then set it down without hanging up. The long distance charges will keep accumulating until they hang up. Another way is to ask each caller for their home phone number so that you can call them and bother them. Another way is to just start talking gibberish when the solicitor answers - pretend you are talking to your Mother, or something. I usually just let my answering machine pick up my home calls, most callers then hang up. Voice mail is easy to delete, if you do not recognize the phone number.

besides a do not call list some callers are allowed to get through.
Simply do the following - as soon as you recognize that the call is an unwanted call - just put your receiver down (in to a pillow to quiet your microphone) After 5 10 min. just hang up. Then again give a phony name and address and pledge the moon .

Block them on your phone but if you don't have that option than answer them and tell them you don't need them to call this phone because I am not buying whatever your trying to sell or giving away. Even though this may be harsh maybe you should set up your phone that if you don't know who it is than it would go straight to voicemail.
