No it really isn't good as a shampoo. I use it only when I have to my male gets a really oily area at teh base of the tail and it's the only thing that helps but I only do that about every 3 months.
It is strong and using it all the time can acuse skin problems.
I am a proffessional grromer we were told yuou should use cat shampoo on cats and dog sahmpoo on dogs but I can tell you what will make your cat smell really nice and this is what we were taught in grooming school.
Use Downy fabric softner ( no other works) you put an inchof Downy in a empty cleaned milk carton add water and use as a conditioner. and you can even change scents so it's not the same old thing.

You can, but I don't think it's a good idea. Dawn is a very powerful detergent and it cuts grease and oil better than any similar product, and better than shower soaps or shampoos. When I used to use a hard waxy pomade on my hair, I would wash my hair with Dawn once in a while to get it all out.
But here's the difference between me and your kitty: I don't lick myself clean all day. Kitty does, and she's going to end up eating some Dawn left over in her fur.
If kitty needs a bath (which is rare for most cats, unless she got into something gross or isn't grooming herself well), use a cat shampoo from the pet store, and rinse her well.
Also, wear huge metal gloves and a suit of armor. Cats hate baths!

Dawn is a degreasing dish (and pot & pan) detergent. Detergent is not good for skin or hair. Until you get a hypo-allergenic, tearless puppy shampoo, you can carefully use any shampoo made for adult (not baby) humans. Baby shampoo is surprisingly much more harsh than people think it is. Brush the puppy all over before the bath. Remove all tangles. Keep the shampoo out of the puppy's eyes, ears, nose and mouth. Be certain to rinse all of the suds off. If you don't get all of the suds off, the pup will get itchy. Towel the puppy and then dry it with a hairdryer set on LOW so you won't burn the puppy. Brush the puppy all over again. Bathing can cause tangles so you may need to remove more tangles.

The answer is NO.
It will dry out their skin, and they only wash aquatic animals with Dawn Soap from being in oil spills because it holds in oil and takes it off. Your kitty wouldn't be very happy nither. Use regular cat shampoo.
Not human shampoo, just kitty shampoo.

When I was a vet assistant we recommended Dawn dish soap if a cat or dog got sprayed by a skunk or got into something greasy. Otherwise human baby shampoo is a safe alternative.

Fanciers use Dawn on longhaired show cats and greasy studs all the time to make them fluffy. If your cat is a shorthair, it may remove more oils than you want, though. Baby shampoo is an alternative.

Yes you can. I went to the vet and they said that Dawn dishsoap works wells on cats. It really helps with fleas, my kitten is too young to use flea shampoos on and they told me to use dawn.

Don't use anything on them that you wouldn't put in your mouth. Thats my rule to pet cleaning.. They do lick themselves to clean.
I don't see anything wrong with it, however, they use it on sea-life, to cut grease, during oil spills... So if your cat was involved in an oil spill, go ahead!
Otherwise, regular human shampoo would be alright, rinse well.. or, kitty shampoo. That is only if ABSOLUTELY NEEDED. They DO clean themselves!

No!!! Your cat needs a shampoo to nourish her fur. Dawn will not only dry out her fur but also her skin. You can by a cat shampoo at any store, even the grocery store.
