Judaism is a religion.
But you if you are "Jewish" then you either belong to a race or a Relgion or both.
A person who belongs to Judaism is a Jew and is Jewish. Like a person who is a member of the Christian faith is Christian.
But a person can also be a part of the Jewish race. As you are born a Jew and it goes through your mothers line but you don't neccesarily have to follow the Jewish religion.
Hope that helps and not to difficult to understand

Jewish is a race.
Judaism is a religion.
Of the major world religions, Christianity and Judaism are likely the most similar. Christianity and Judaism both believe in one God who is almighty, omniscient, omnipresent, eternal, and infinite. Both religions believe in a God who is holy, righteous, and just - while at the same time loving, forgiving, and merciful. Christianity and Judaism share the Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament) as the authoritative Word of God, although Christianity includes the New Testament as well. Both Christianity and Judaism believe in the existence of Heaven, the eternal dwelling place of the righteous, and Hell, the eternal dwelling place of the wicked. Christianity and Judaism have basically the same ethical code, commonly known today as Judeo-Christian. Both Judaism and Christianity teach that God has a special plan for the nation of Israel and the Jewish people.

Judaism is NOT a race since anyone can become Jewish by conversion. If a member of the white race (or Black) becomes Jewish, they do NOT change their race. Race has to do with physical features.
Yes, it is a religion.... but Judaism is best decribed as a particular people. It is not an ethnicity....people from all ethnic groups can be Jewish: there are African Jews, Chinese Jews, Spanish Jews and tons of others.
Then again, many Jews are not observant Jews.....and yes, there are atheist Jews (one is Jewish by blood or conversion and since one cannot change one's blood....)
Therefore, the term "particular people" is the best term to describe them.

YES!!! Hows that for real help??? Abram was the first Jew so he was the "Chicken" before the "Egg". The "Religion" aspect can actually be traced back to just after A. & E. were kicked out of the Garden & having to make "Sacrifices" to God. However Judaism has like other "Religions" strayed & often emulated aspects from other "Religions" from time to time. john

JUDAISM IS BOTH. There is a race of Jewish people (who were historically Jewish by religion) AND the religion itself. I, for example, am Jewish by blood (a gene passed through the mothers side) but I have never been to temple or practiced the religion whatsoever. I am therefore a non-practicing Jew.

Judaism is a religion. However, many jews come from the same race: Hebrews. So in common usage, the term jew is used as a synonym for a hebrew. But, in proper usage, judaism is only a religion.
