A German Shepherd would definitely win. No question about it. Most mid to large sized dogs can easily intimidate and overpower coyotes. Coyotes are actually quite small only weighing 31 lbs on average. On the other hand a German Shepherd weighs almost three times as much as a coyote at an average 80-85 lbs. Also, coyotes will generally avoid a fight with anything that would be able to seriously hurt it while dogs are known to chase off coyotes.

There would not be a fight. A Coyote is pretty timid and easily intimidated. The size if the Shepard would have the Coyote turning tail and running away.

It would depend on who got the fatal bite first. German Shepherds and known for going for the jugular but coyotes kill for their food so its hard to tell. It would be a blood fight that's for sure!

my 5 month (then 4 month) old basenji killed a coyote.
she's 11 lbs and 13"
we were warned that coyotes were in the forest preserve, but we never saw any so we kept going there.
(not anymore)
coyotes have killed the neighbors little dogs.

dont listen 2 all the ppl who r saying german sheperd they r wrong i have a german shepherd yes they r very strong and intelligent bu a coyote is born in the wild its jaws would tear apart any dog breed u dont c ppl who have coyotes as pets cause they r wild and vicious
