I was involved in an accident. 3 cars were stationary sitting at a light waiting to turn right. The 4th car (17 year old ) no license, permit only, no one in the car with him, no insurance hits me from behind. The impact was great enough his air bags went off. This pushed me into another vehicle. This vehicle left the scene of the accident. The vehicle also hit another vehicle in front of them. Out of the 4 cars I was the only one that carried insurance. I did retrieve the license plate number of the guy that left the scene. The police stated they would check it out. Upon receiving the police report they said they didn't have enough investigators to take care of a job like this. So this guy has gone free. The one that hit me a $445 fine for no ins. and no license. The vehicle in front $295 for no insurance. My questions are:
Am i liable for all these vehicles?
What is the penalty for a hit and run?
By the way this was in the state of Texas.

You are not responsible for the damages in this accident. Make sure your insurance company is aware of the incident, as the other parties may try to make a claim against the only person that has insurance. How do you know the 17-year-old kid was not operating a vehicle that has insurance? In Texas insurance follows the car, not the driver. Unless he stole it, the insurance company would almost certainly still be on the hook for the damage. I suggest you got to the office of the police that took the report and beg them to find the car and driver. If they wont do that, I would file an official complaint with the department, than go to another agency that has jurisdiction over the location of the wreck. For example, if its in the city the sheriff’s office and the DPS also have jurisdiction there. They MIGHT be willing to help, even if the local agency won’t. The penalty, as you explained it, is a Class B Misdemeanor. If someone was hurt, it’s more serious. It’s an unlisted felony, up to 5 yrs in prison or a year in jail and/or $5000 fine.

Feel free to e-mail me, as I might be able to help you regardless of where in Texas this happened!

No absolutly not.The driver that caused the accident is soley responsible for all the damages. If the cops want investigate then your insurance company will if they try to file any claims against you.Regardless if you did'nt recieve a ticket then its the insurance companys problem to sort it all out.I hope you carried uninsured motorist coverage on your vehicle so you can be compensated for your damages. If not then you may be out of a car.If your not sure then call your insurance company and inquire about your coverage.I've been in these situations before and if you do you still may not get enough to replace your car depending on make and model and blue book value. Then check to see if you have any coverage for medical or accident coverage it may make up the difference.I would go see a chiropracter if you do and get as much from it as you can so you will have enough to replace your vehicle. Its all a headache but its worth doing to keep from being cheated out of a car. They will want to total it for a small price and take your vehicle. Then all you can do is put a down payment on another car and make payments. So go for the medical expense as much as you can,its called personel injury coverage. It may be your only way to be properly compensated.Even if it is your on insurance company if you carry that coverage then thats what its for.Good Luck I hope this helps.

relies upon on the suspect's checklist and no count number if or not it replaced into legally desperate that the suspect replaced into intoxicated. There are diverse regulations in diverse states on the subject of hit and runs, fleeing the scene, etc. on the least, there'll be hefty fines and misdemeanor or 2.
