I have been take 20mg of Prilosec daily but my dr. has upped it to 40 mg. I swiyched back to 20mg because it was making my leg ache. The other dr has put me on 150 mg of Ranitidine generic for Zantac 150mg is it safe for me to take Zantac and Prilosec together? I am supposed to take the Zantac twice daily.

Yes.

My doctor started me on both about a month ago (even at a higher dosage than you), and then 2 days ago he said it wouldn't be necessary to take the Ranitidine anymore. I found no ill effects by taking them both (and I wish I had started taking Prilosec about 5 years ago!).

He said the 2 meds work in slightly different ways and they don't counteract or contraidicate each other.

Make sure that each doctor knows about the other prescription. These drugs work differently, but both decrease acid in the stomach. You probably do not need to be taking both. I'm not sure that there is any benefit in doing so. But like I said, talk to both of your doctors and see which therapy they recommend keeping you on.
