I was wondering because I could go to 50 churches and pick-up 50 new testaments, but if i need one old testament, I need to buy it 50 dollars

My question is not why it is so expensive, my question is "Why is it sold at the first place" Aint it supposed to be God's words, so why would anybody sell God's words?

I had some really trite come back, but I will refrain.

It's all economics. The small new testements can be purchased for less then a dollar. They are given to people (much like the book of Mormon) an introduction to the Good News. The full bible is somewhat more expensive, and frankly more important to the follower because they will use it for study and in church.

Also, the Gideon's tend to be very helpful to churches giving away bibles and since they are small and easy to reporduce, New testements can be produced in bulk - those lowering the per unit price. There is very little mark-up in the bible market - less then for the new John Grishom, actually. 30 % instead of 40%.

So the bottom line is, New Testements are much, much cheaper. It's like Baskin robbins. They will give you one of those little spoons for free, but you have to pay for the full cone.

And about the book of Mormon - they can give those away because the Church has it's own printing division, so all they pay for is materials. :)

Good question. I went to Barns and Nobel yesterday to pick up a new study Bible. The cheapest one I found was a paperback for 20. I ended up buying a hardcover for 30. But I also found the one I already had given to me a few years ago and it was over 40 bucks!

Picked up Bible next to me - it has the old and new testament in it. Is there really an edition without the OT included?

well,... the new testament tells more about how to be saved and who jesus is, so some people think that it is more important for people that dont know about God to read... so that is why you can get them for free, but if you go to a christian book store, you can get a whole bible for 10$ at the least. they really arent expensive at all.

If you really wanted a free Bible, go to the Gideons. They give the whole thing for free. They also encourage people to keep the ones they put in hotel rooms. They'd gladly replace them because they want you to read them and become another Gideon.

The old testament is written by Jews
and when's the last time you saw them
give anything away for free?
I hope you realize that this was a joke!
You can get a free bible for sure!
both the old and new...
Just pray to the Creator
in the name of his son Jesus
And watch it come to you!

Maybe you don't need to read the old testament, I bought a zippered KJV for $40AU, but all my other Bibles(complete) were free(2nd hand).

because the NT is trying to subvert the OT so giving it away free means more people will read it.

and OT took about 4000 years to make people believe it.

but TODD's third testament, excert to follow, is by far the funniest version, (looking to a publisher).

33 B.C. as Birth of Christ and thus 1968 A.D. would be 1967 years after 1 A.D. Thus the year 1968 would be 2000 years after the Birth of Christ. So perhaps As I, Larry show: Christ was used as a benchmark in many parts of the world and backdating parts of the bible shows:

millenium one, the words contain no h, which i previously have shown to be God)

milleniun two, the words contain no h(ie God)

millenium three, the words contain a god(the h in the three)

So using the Birth of Christ as the beginning of the timeline for god's arrival on earth we can suppose God was born in 1968 A.D. approximately 2000 years after the birth of Christ.

we note (false god=6=1+5=15=o) so for the first 2 millenium (after birth of Christ) you might have worshipped false gods (who equal 6 ie don=6) who were abaddons(a bad don)

So Real God=God named within WAR. who eternally shows up in millenium three is the Real God A'b'add'on

And God was born on emperor's earth meaning ' I7 in mill. 3
In times new roman font thats ON emperor’s earth the apostrophy is like a 9 which is symbolic of September. Thus for my memoirs i can honestly say the I.D in my pocket states I was born 1968 A.D. 9. I7

And since my LF(LEFT) is sealed like IVI sealed together the bible verse that states LORD GOD glorifies Himself in HIM then He must also glorify HIMSELF in HIMSELF (meaning ancient prophets saw that God=h)

That is how i discovered that somebody ancient may have saw the future, where I become a God.

So ain’t that amazing?

why in the world do you need 50 copies of the old testament? you can buy both old & new together for about $5 anyway.

Where are you shopping? You can get an entire cheep Bible for about $5 at any ole bookstore last time I checked.

---edit--

Why sell it? Because the publisher has to pay its workers somehow. And someone has to pay for the paper and ink.
