What is the best way to get rid of surgical scars?

I've had knee surgery twice and its left me with the ugliest scars ever! With Summer coming up...Im trying to figure out the best way to fade them. Ive tried Mederma, it didn't work....any other suggestions!?

There are numerous (albeit expensive) surgical scar removal cremes at your local pharmacy. I've heard some people claim miracles with Vitamin E oil especially when in the healing process. I've also heard aloe vera gel can work.
