In Windows when you open folders you have the choice of thumbnail view, filmstrip and a preview box to see the files without having to open them first. Is there anything like that for the Mac? I find the lack of options for viewing folders ridiculous, especially seeing as I prefer Mac for almost everything else?

Hell no. Safari is much better than IE. I don't know if you know this or not, but if you go to http://www.webkit.org and download the nightly build of WebKit, you'll get much better performance from Safari. Save the WebKit application to your applications folder and run it in place of Safari. It will run Safari with the updated WebKit, which is better than the version that is currently used in Safari.

OH, you're talking about the Finder vs. Windows Explorer. The Finder wins, hands down. You can enable thumbnails in the View Options window. You can select multiple files and view them in a slide show. Also, don't forget to use Spotlight, it's really a great tool for finding files and folders. The Finder is so much easier to navigate, if you know all the tricks. There's plenty of ways to make file browsing a breeze.

Yes. In fact, it's much easier to set up on the Mac. If you open your "Finder" you will notice three boxes in the upper left hand corner to the right of the "left" and "right" arrows. These allow you to adjust the way you view files when you browse. Moreover, you can set up "smart" browsing where files that meet criteria are automatically segregated for your browsing pleasure. If any new file is created that meets the criteria, it is automatically put in the virtual directory that is created.

Hope this helps.

yes, you have those options:

in your finder's window frame are icons for the different views, next to the previous/next buttons; they are...
• icons with names only (images preview in this mode
including jpg, gif and tiff files)
• details - type, dates, version info., etc.
• columns - click a folder and it's contents appear in the next column; click a file and a preview (when applicable) appears in the next column

also, if you click on the gear icon you can set your view preferences, and choose if you want them to apply only to that particular window, or to ALL your windows

and the easiest way to browse is via Spotlight (menu bar, all the way to the right, the blue magnifying glass logo OR top right of the finder windows); which searches for the files you want based on text entry (partial words are fine, too). It's really fast, unlike Windoze.

Mac has them too. You can find them at the top of the window. I promise Macs can do everything PC's can do...just way better!
