Yes, I am not allergic. When I was little, my brothers would get it all the time. I'd rub the plant on my arms and legs so I could 'get the rash' too and stay home from school..........never worked! I'd be on the bus and my brothers would be at home taking an 'oatmeal' bath.

I don't KNOW if animals are DIRECTLY affected by poison ivy, but I DO KNOW that humans, who are sensitive to it, can get a rash from the fur of animals who've come in contact with it! I speak from experience on this!! Maybe you should ask a vet about animals being affected by poison ivy. Good luck............

Yes, neither me nor my brother are allergic to poison ivy. We used to play in it all the time when we were kids and when my mom found out she freaked, but nothing ever happened, and we went back to playing in it. Never had a problem with it.

Yes. My father and my son never get a rash from poison ivy. I, on the other hand, break out like a bumpy leper.

Yes, you can seem to be immune to poison ivy, but the more you're exposed, you'll eventually get the rash. It takes multiple exposures to get it.

Allergy is actually pretty uncommon. The rash is a reaction to an oil, not mediated by IgE as allergies are. Some people are much less sensitive than others, sometimes the amount of oil isn't sufficient to cause a rash, and if it's on thicker skin it's less likely to cause a rash than if it's on a thinner, more sensitive part.

Poison ivy isn't really an allergy. When the oils from the plant get on your skin, it causes the hystamine reaction that forms the rash. Just a casual graze against the plant isn't enough, you really have to be in contact with it.
