I want to join the Coast Guard becuase I like handling small boats, but I know there's some small boats in the Navy as well. Is SWCC the only way to get behind the helm of these boats, or are there other careers that use small boats in the Navy? I'd love to be in SWCC but I'm not even close to matching their level of fitness.

What everyone else is saying is true. You can also become a BM Boatswain's Mate. A lot of people will tell you there is no glamour in the job, but they rule the world of small boats. They take care of everything that has to do with the Captain's Gig on an aircraft carrier as well as the Admiral's Gig. They take care of it as well as skipper it when the ship is deployed and they need to get to shore via the water because they cannot tie up at a pier. If you like that idea, BM is a great rate for you and does not require you to be super star in the physical fitness area like the SWCC community does.
