They are formed in an extruder and then shot out of the round die which puffs them up a bit. Quite a noisy process. I worked at a cereal plant.

You need to watch more TV
Just like donuts
Go visit you 'Crispy Creams' and watch the production line.
I did that back in 1948 at the local grocery (pre supermarket)

They are extruded under preasure like pasta, Watsits, Shreaded wheet, hoola hoops etc
