The due date can be off, you could really only be 40 or 41 weeks, if the baby is under no stress then the doctor probably wants to keep him/her up there. I mean the child will come out, no woman has ever stayed pregnant for ever and there were lots of women, before medicine was around that went longer than the 40 weeks. We are too quick to induce, take C-section or use medicine in modern times. I know it is uncomfortable, walk, have lots of sex, the sperm softens the cervix and orgasm can cause contractions, and if you are really that worried, call another doctor and ask to just have a consultation. Just to get a second opinion. That might make you feel better.

Have you had NST's done? If the baby appears to be fine and everything is fine with you then you are fine. The average term for gestation is 38-42 weeks. The average first time mom goes to about 41 weeks 2 days. Years ago, moms were never induced because they were 43 weeks. My mom went to 44 wks with both her kids and they were both fine. Sure there is some risk with the placenta but it just doesn't shut down at 42 weeks and stop working.

Yep. By 43 weeks you have likely had enough of being pregnant - and you've also had enough of waddling around like a duck and not knowing what your toes are doing. I remember that stage very well!
As long as your doctor is monitoring the situation, and doesn't find anything of concern, just relax and sit it out. Some babies take longer to cook than others. While most babies come at 42 weeks, that is only an average. Some come earlier, some come later. The bottom line is they come when they are ready. Now is the time for you to relax. To catch up on some reading. Go for a nice, gentle, walk around the block. Have a quiet dinner with your husband, and start addressing announcement cards, because in a very short time, your life is going to change drastically!
Lots of luck.

I went over also but only 40weeks and 4 days.I was curious about your question so I called my doctor and asked. He said going to 42 weeks is fine, but when you hit 43 weeks you must deliver. After doing a bit of research also,Ive found that 43weeks is the latest delivery date. This was an interesting question, ive never heard of anyone going to 43weeks before.Look up some information on it if you would like to know the exact details as to why.

I've never heard of a doctor letting a woman go past 2 weeks overdue. I've had 2 kids, both were late. My daughter was 2 weeks late and we did an emergency c-section because I just wasn't progressing naturally into labor. My doctor would only allow me to go 5 days over with the second and boy am I glad because he was 1.5 lbs bigger than the first! The baby just keeps growing in there, so the longer your doctor lets you go, the bigger the baby you're going to deliver. In the very least, your doctor should have "stripped your membrane" to help the natural progression of labor. If you can't get anywhere with your doctor, you need to see if you can possibly see another doctor in the office. You've gone way too long. Good Luck to you and the baby!!

Wow- there really is such a thing as babies being in there too long, and I think you're there or even past there. I'd get medical help somewhere else- actually, I would have at 40-41 weeks, I honestly think your doctor is putting you in danger. Some women do not naturally go into labor... your baby can have serious problems if too overdue... go somewhere else and get help- today! Good luck~

Wow.........it is time to have a baby! Get up and get moving. Try to get things going on your own. Walk, walk and walk some more. Clean house, cook, stay active. Tonight get busy with the man in your life and then go for a walk...:o)

You are not supposed to go past 42 weeks gestation, the placenta starts to lose it's function and the baby will start to lose weight and could even die. You need to get a new doctor fast and be induced.

My doctor told me the same thing, she said she never heard of a baby not being born. Just be patient.
