After me asking what to feed my puppies that are about to turn 6 weeks old, I saw that many people said that Canidea was the best. I have called EVERYWHERE within an hour of me and NO ONE SELLS IT! Not the vets, feed stores, grocers or retail, or Pets Mart. A feed store out here has been trying to get it for a while but for some reason they won't send thier order. I also went to the websight to see where this dog food is sold and the closest place is a lil over an hour away!

I am not gunna use Eukanuba, Iams, or any of that other crap food, as you all say. What is the next best food to feed these dogs. I heard some people say that "Wellness" is good? If I can't find this food eaither....what else do you guys suggest? Thanks for the answers! This is so frustrating! Liveing out here it is hard to find the good dog foods! Everyone seems to carry the recalled or crappy brands! Thanks!

Yes, it can be tough if you live in a small town or a remote place because the premium dog foods are not sold in the giant stores like Petsmart or Petco.
There are a ton of premium foods out there though. Innova is excellent and I see it more often than many other premium foods. Wellness is good too. Merrick is good. Solid Gold, but that's one that is even harder to find than Canidae.
If all else fails, you can order these foods online. The shipping is a bit because of the weight of the food. I've ordered food from www.waggintails.com before and they carry nothing but premium foods and their prices are reasonable.

When did chicory, carrots, peas, apples and cranberry become dog food ingredients? There isn't much real difference between these foods. One uses chicken and turkey, the other only uses chicken. Neither uses corn or wheat. The biggest difference is the fruits and vegetables in the chicken soup brand. Both are made by the same company and its a good bet that the major ingredients come from the same sources. Unless there is an allergy problem your dog will be fine with either food. Feed whichever one is easier to get. The prices are close enough to the same, especially considering how little one pomeranian will eat. If you were feeding a working dog you might notice a difference between those foods but not with a normal family pet.

We have to drive 45 minutes to get our Canidae.. The store close to us has a heck of a time getting it.. I believe alot of it has to do with the recall.. I believe Canidae is one that was overwhelmed with new customers when everyone dropped their other dogfood . I think once they get caught up, they'll be fine and able to provide everyone with enough Canidae to keep everyone happy.. Or I Hope anyhow.. We order 6 bags at a time, and get them alot cheaper doing it that way. Then it gives us a chance to get them to order 6 more and if they don't get it fairly quickly, it's not a huge deal.

I would check the Wellness next.. We had decided when we switched we would go with the Canidae and if it was too hard to get, we would try the Wellness.. Otherwise.. I don't know.. Petfood recall and contaminated machinery making so many of the foods, and Class action lawsuits against most of the other foods.. Timberwolf is another one that people seem to really like. Ok, not people, but people's dogs really like :)

More trouble w/ foods, check out this one now..

You might try some on line pet stores, waggin tails carries it, It might not be so expensive if you consider the price of gas for 2 hours, round trip, time. Wellness, Innova, Natural Balance, Solid Gold, these are all considered super premium foods.

Someone mentioned Gravy Train, nope, no good. Also stay away from Kibbles 'n Bits, Ol Roy, Little Caesar (very expensive for the ingredients) Mighty Dog.

Someone mentioned to stay away from products with corn. That is a wives tale. Corn is a great source of carbohydrates. They also said it isn't digested very well by dogs, another fallacy. Actually dogs digest it very well, better than rice. You just don't want to see it very high up on the ingredient list for cost reasons. Third or fourth is fine.

Ok then the next best food is Wellness. They do carry this at most PetCo. You can order it on line if you have too. They even carry this at feed stores too and at Agways. this made by Old Mother Hubbard and they even have little puppy bones. I give my boys the Old Mother Hubbard bones all the time.
If you cant find the Wellness than you may as well go on line and order the Canidae! Just type in the Canidae name and then go to the site that will ship it to you OK.
I have to drive 1/2 hour to get my Canidae well worth the price of gas and my time too.

Natural Balance, Avoderm, Pinnacle, Nature Recipe, Wellness, these are just a few. If you go to any good pet store and tell them that you want a great food they will point you in the right direction Good luck and Good for you feed better food!!

By the way Corn is not a good thing to have in your dog food and one of the main resaon that dog develope hots spots. I took pet food nutrition classes and I am not sure where the post below heard dogs can digest corn but that is a lie no one not even humans digest corn very well it is just a very cheap filler

I also do not like feeding the crappy cheap brands. I always fed my dog Nutros Naturals they have many different dry types for large to small breed puppies. My puppy is now a very active healthy adult. It also does not use harmful preservatives like some other dog foods.

Innova dog food. I have used it for several years now for my four chihuahua's and it's a great food. It has great ingrediants just like the others you mentioned.

My 4 Chihuahua's and my 2 cats all have Wellness. They all love it. It's a human grade food that almost all dogs or cats love.

You can order Canidae online (and wellness):

You can also look into Timberwolf Organics:

Also, Innova or California Natural (maybe this will be in your area, just click on 'where to buy':

Hope that helps!
