the term depression and the term suicidal have 2 separate definitions and are not mutually exclusive. are you having trouble accepting that you want to kill yourself? or are you not sure if you are in fact depressed because you have no desire to kill yourself? good luck.

Absolutely. Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, affecting everyone on different levels. I have had depression since the mere age of 9, and have never once wanted to deliberately kill myself. Depending on the severeness of your depression, you may want to kill yourdelf or just maybe get away from people for a while. If YOU are depressed, I suggest you seek out someone to talk to. I have been on Prozac and other depression medications which have helped me substancially. Hope I helped. =)

My goodness yes. Most people diagnosed with depression do not want to die. They just find it difficult to face day to day crap. (excuse the language) Please seek help!!!! Tell a parent, friend, spouse especially a doctor. New medicines are terrific that can make a HUGE difference in your life. Do not be ashamed!!!!! I think most people are clinically depressed but just don't know it. Talk to someone. I have been depressed since I was a small child. I am now an old geezer of 45! I do take meds and wish I'd had them 40 years ago.

Best of luck, many hugs.

Absolutely. All it needs is a lot of life that has been lived and learned. As they say reason comes but wisdom lingers. Once you know you are in the company of billions who are depressed around the world. Not many Darfurians have killed themselves. This will pass too as everything else......including phases of what is called happiness. I personally know many people who go through phases of depression and have never thought of killing themselves. After all where is the proof that once you are dead you don't have another birth and who knows if there is rebirth the next life could be even worse.

Most definitely. That is *a* symptom of depression, but not a requirement for it. I have been depressed for many years but never wanted to actually kill myself.

Yes, everyone experiences depression differently. Even if a person feels suicidal sometimes, it does not mean that they have to have suicidal thoughts all the time.

It sure is. I have suffered from depression on and off for years and have never considered ending my life. Getting out of bed and going about my day has been difficult from time to time - but not suicide.

Yes. Many people with depression, even some with severe depression, do not have suicidal ideation.

Yes. There are many forms, or levels, of depression. You could be mildly depressed, you can be simply melencoly, manic, etc. Being depressed can be long-term (chronic) or short-term (acute). Simply because you are depressed doesn't mean you want to kill yourself.
