People like Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson want you to believe that the Hate Crime Bill (HR 1592) that passed in the House this month is an assault on Christianity.

They say that it interferes with Chrisitians ability to preach against homosexuality.

What they are not telling you is that it simply adds "gender", "sexuality" and "disability" to the classes of people who are ALREADY protected under this law that has existed since the Civil Rights Movement.

"Race" and "Religion" are ALREADY protected under the very same law...

So if these are "special rights" then Christians are already taking advantage of them.

Read the bill adendum for yourself here:

and a clear description of it here:

What do you think of it?

I think that I already knew that, as I read the bill when people started getting snarky about it.

I also think that you are WONDERFUL for posting this, as I'm tired of trying to defend the darn thing to people who haven't even read it.

I *did* learn something.

I probably wouldn't have if I had been keeping up with politics this month, but thanks. That's good to know.

The problem with the Christians' view is that some sects really do have some hateful teachings. It's only a matter of time before Christians' hatred of homosexuality is as frowned upon in even Christian circles as past Christian hatred of, for example, Judaism. Still, the most hateful ones won't go down without kicking and screaming.

I Shiver to think what would happen if they get their wish, its horrifying that these two people and their supporters want society to go backwards instead of forwards in to the Salem Witch Hunts or the Inquisition times. Next thing you know, they will want to re-enact by proof of MIS-interpretted text in the Bible that it is a Christian's right for Slavery to continue.

Beware... in the future we might get burnt at a Laser Beam Stake for living alone with a mechanical cat.

Actually, a correct. Jerry Falwell doesn't care about this bill anymore.

And I agree with you.

They have always taken some law that they do not like and twist the facts. Why do you think so many of them think it's against the law to bring your bible or pray in school?

People like Jerry Falwell make me sick because they spit on what makes America America, something I have had family die for. If I hear one more Christian talk about how "bad" it is for them, I am going to smack them.

Signorile is that you? LOL As a member of the LGBT community, I'm tired of the "persecution complex" as an excuse to permit homophobia.

How is Jerry Falwell going to get me to think anything if he died last week? It's nice they care what I think, but I'll make up my own mind, thanks, with whatever it is they are trying to get me to believe and whatever it is YOU are trying to get me to believe. I thought I was supposed to learn something here?
