Does anyone know where I can get information on the quansen hut camps in Pennsylvania during the world war II era? I am hoping to track some information down and cannot find anything online concerning this.

The home I currently live in was built using wood from a Quanset hut camp in Lancaster Pennsylvania and I found something that I would like to be able to track down in the wood. I am hoping to find out more about who may be behind the markings

Quanset huts were used extensively throughout the country during that era and for twenty more years after the war. They were easy to build, easy to maintain, went up quickly, and had all the comforts of barracks living.

Was there something unique about Pennsylvania's quanset huts? I experienced quanset hut living in boot camp at MCRD in the fifties. They have been replaced with barracks since then, but it was comfortable enough back then, of coarse San Diego didn't have any serious weather challenges !

Quonset huts were ubiquitous throughout the era and for many years afterwards. Every military installation had them and a great many still do. They're quick and economical and imminently practical. You need the name and location of the particular camp you're referring to. There are archives in Washington that will have the data you seek. Do be aware that, despite common sense, some of that data is still classified after all these years and may not be accessible without you demonstrating an overriding need for the information. It can be a very long, frustrating exercise to find such stuff - but there are times when it's worth it. I hope your need is met. Good luck.
