If you pray, "God gimme" its a weakness. If you pray "God what can I give to you" it is a strength.

It depends on what you define weakness and strength as. From my point of view, using prayer is a sign of spiritual awareness, that there is something beyond the physical world that we see. It is drawing upon hidden reserves of spiritual power and energy. It may be one of the most important acts that keeps families united and smooths over feelings of stress and loss.

Prayer is an act of sincere, humble repentance and surrender to the Holy Spirit, asking for proper guidance when we can't rely on our flesh/mind to decide the best way to proceed. It takes inner strength to beat down our prideful flesh to humble ourselves before God and pray for his intercession. Believers know that our flesh is weak, so we rely on the Holy Spirit to guide us.
"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express." --Romans 8:26 NIV

Both.
A man recognizes he is weak in the face of temptation so he prays to God for strength.
But it's a man of strength and character who is willing to acknowledge his faults in the first place.

More things are wrought through prayer than this world dreams of.
Prayer changes things.

Neither. It is simply a practice engaged in by many different people for many different reasons.
