That I have hardend my heart against god. That I really do believe that god is "real" and I know in my heart he is. If I don't believe it's to hell I go. Really?
How have I hardened my heart against god? Why has none of the other pieces of my heart been hardened? Not my love for family and friends. Not the wonder I feel when I look at the night sky and the beuaty around us? I do not feel in my heart that god is real. I have thought about it. wouldn't it be great if it was true? Someone that will always forgive you and love you, who wouldn't want that, and yet, I do not have that belief. Should I lie and say I do? Just so christians can feel better in their faith, that they are right? Just to go along with everybody else? But wouldn't that be a lie? And it being a lie, if there was a god, he would know. I wonder how big a sin is lying to god about believing him is? So, the only thing I could do is "to thy own heart be true"

Is my thinking wrong? I cannot be, what I am not. No matter how I try, I'll never be able to give something, that I just don't have.

Yes, It does sound that way. I guess I just wanted christians to know what my feeling were, when they say those things. Maybe some will understand, some wont. I would like to know what makes them think that they know me and what I am thinking.

No problem with me, I am not wobbley and will always be an atheists. I was pointing out why do they have to be so rude and claim they know what I am feeling! That I HAVE examined by thoughts and beliefs and find them true for me and it's pretty high and mighty of them to claim to know what is in MY heart. I was trying to do it in a nice way.

I'm with daniel F on this one..... Why is what they believe so important to you? They believe in god, but you're an atheist so you obviously don't care about that... Why care what these shallow and obviously arrogant people think about you?

There are truly kind christians who don't believe the same things that the others do & they're genuinely kind. They don't feel everyone is going to hell and they know that christianity isn't for everyone. The others, however; are arrogant...self absorbed immature sheep who cannot understand why anyone would not believe what they believe and they try to belittle those who do not believe the same things.

If i were you I would just ignore it and move on. There are more important things in life to concern yourself with than these idiots who say these stupid things to you. You don't have to prove anything to them. :-)

If they don't believe you're a good person it's their loss, nobody elses because there are people in the world who know you & know your heart & know what kind of person you are. If they want to judge you before they even know you, that's they're problem not yours. Don't let it get to you. :-)

Nobody else can tell you what you believe, or don't believe. How could a person other than you presume that they know you better than you know yourself? They have a right to believe in god if they wish, and you have a right to not believe.
Likewise, you have a right to your beliefs, without someone else telling you that you are wrong, and they are right (and vice versa of course).
I've always felt that honesty is the best policy. Why should you lie to make things easier for others? Be yourself, you believe what you believe, and don't let others tell you otherwise.

I've been told the same thing.

When I mentioned to the person that I never believed, that I thought it was all fairy tales even as a very small child, and that I TRIED to believe when I was little...he told me that I must've hardened my heart as a very small child.

It's illogical, it doesn't make sense, and it isn't true. You'd think I'd know my own darn feelings, emotions, beliefs, actions. But it's somewhere in that book of theirs, so anything I say back will be ignored.

Hardening of the heart can occur in some areas and not in others. It basically means an individual chooses not to accept something for reasons they accept as true, they've closed their mind to that possiblity. To lie about what you believe is not right just to please others. Whether you believe in God won't have an effect on whether Christians feel good about themselves. It's more a matter of their concern for your eternal spirit. They know the pleasures of interacting with God and would like you to know it too.

that someone else has a different belief is a threat to them
they are afraid of differing views because
they repress the urge to question their own
and are afraid of death and the unknown
its a security blanket
and they dont like anyone telling them its not real

That you feel the need to justify yourself shows doubt. Perhaps you should not re-consider your atheism, but re-consider your motives for atheism.
