All they have done through history is kill each other and Non believers. They all seem to take money from the poor and give nothing in return apart from taking more for the churches upkeep. So why are they tolerated in modern society?

People are too scared. Religion for some reason is a subject that we cannot touch! It goes on through the ages causing atrocities (people will say: people cause atrocities not religions....religions are man-made so the argument doesn't work) and yet it goes on unchecked, unchallenged and we turn a blind eye to it. We turn a blind eye to the indoctrination of children (only with religion), we turn a blind eye to the tax exemption, we turn a blind eye to the pope saying we shouldn't use condoms, we turn a blind eye to circumcision, we turn a blind eye to the violent submission of women.... yes the world would be a better place if people would get their heads off the crazy books and came back to reality!!!!

>>>Who else thinks the world would be better off without these damn religions?
All they have done through history is kill each other and Non believers.<<<

Wrong. That's what Atheist Communism has done in abundance. In the last century alone, it has slaughtered 150 million people. And counting.

It's ignorant of you to assert that religions "take money from the poor and give nothing in return."

The Roman Catholic Church is the single largest provider of charity and humanitarianism on the planet. That's an opinion, not a fact.

What atheist organizations do you know with that kind of track record?

What a question! The truth is that all religions are good for mankind. The harm comes when self-centred people twist religion to their own ends. These are the people we could well do without. But religion itself gives people standards to live by, hope for the future. People who believe (no matter what the religion) and practise their faith truly are actually very lucky. They seem to get a great deal out of life, while many of those of us who don't believe or are not sure what we believe in, end up confused and with a feeling of being lost.
So lets have religion and love on another, but get rid of the evil people who use religion to their own ends.

That's a big paint brush you have. Not all religions are like that. Who have the Buddhists ever harmed? How about the Sikhs? The Unitarians? The Quakers? People of the B'hai faith?

There are many religions that actually practice peace and help humanity.

The ones that do not are generally Abrahamic (Christian, Jew, Muslim) although there are some good people in those religions as well.

Religion tends to bring out the ugly side of people just as much as politics does as all most people look at is the labels instead of looking at people as people. But at the same time religion plays a part in people's lives just as much as politics. It's ultimately the people who are doing the bad things in the name of religion. There are some good qualities to religion as well such as there are people who tend to derive their moral values and core based on their religious beliefs. The biggest problem is fanaticism. The key to everything in life is moderation.

no i don't think most people would be able to cope without religion, even though I'm non-religious myself. that's what it's there for after all.
obviously the enmity, killing etc. between different religions is the downside, but most of that is in the past now. hopefully they'll be able to smooth things out in the future and live side by side with out getting mad at each other! :]

I don't think religion is completely the problem. I think people need to learn to respect differences of opinion and stop saying "I'm right, you're wrong, and I'm going to bully you until you agree with me". There is nothing wrong with people believing in something different but we must ALL start respecting that everyone sees the world differently and we are entitled to our opinion and in the United States, we are entitled to our religion or lack thereof.

Sure give me an evidence of a society where religion was banned or non-existent that could be considered a worthy example in support of your claim.

Oh dear, we would only find something else, so why not leave people be and worry about your own life. Unless you are a friend or i work with you your life really won't efect mine. Bye
