If you read the Quran and Sunnah you would know as Muslims we are one Umma we are not to divide into sects that is against the teachings of Islam. Sunni simply means you follow the Sunnah which ALL Muslims should do so by definition all Muslims are Sunni. Sunni is not a sect no matter what anyone says. If you want to be a good Muslim just use the Quran and Sunnah as your guide and dont put yourself into any sect at all there is no need.

I just found this site with a detailed description of each. There are lots of interesting links at the bottom.

As for which one you should be in? Well, that´s your choice, of course. You have to be happy with it.

I am Sunni. I chose it, and I think it is right, of course. I may disagree with you if you become Shia, but I would always respect your decision. It is only important that you do your research, look into the history and look at the present, and figure out what is right for you. It is between you and God.

Take care!

Look, there is only ONE Islam, u don't need to be in any sect, just believe in Allah (swt) and follow the teachings of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).
3.9. The only religion in the sight of God is Islam.

Think of it this way - if you choose Sunni, then the Shi'as will be out to get you. If you choose Shi'a then the Sunnis will be out to get you.

Why not just stay in the background - it will be much safer.
