Hey, I am not religious and my boyfriend is a non-practicing Catholic but we want to get married in achurch. (a Non-Catholic church). How would we go about this? How much do you have to pay to get married in a church. Any ideas for a non-religious wedding ceremony?

In Illinois, there are several retired DuPage judges who now have little chapels that do only weddings. Sorry, I don't have any other info other than this. You might try doing a search for this. The one retired judge that I know say it is a great business. I think he is north of DG/Naperville, but in the suburbs.

There is also a non-denominational chapel in the Naper Settlement www.napersettlement.museum.

I would also suggest to go to a chapel that is specifically used for weddings.

I honestly don't see how you can have a non-religious wedding in a church. Each church has their own religion and tradition, so there WILL be some kind of religion in your wedding.

Do it at a hall or at home or somewhere other than a church if you really do not want to incorporate religion.

You can check online or in the yellow pages for weddings. There are many wedding services with chapels that perform non-denominational and non-religious ceremonies. You can also look on the web for wedding vows and combine the different ones you like or ask the officiant to see the vows first to make sure they wont be offensive to you. Congrats.

Try a Unitarian Fellowship, A Wedding Chapel, or a Historic Site.

You can also search your area for Interfaith chapels, collages, some residential facilities, Military Academy's, and other places have them.

If you're in NY the United Nations has a chapel too.

i would do a non-denomination church wedding or go to a chapel and have a non religion specific wedding ceremony (which basically means they say God but not use any particular religion's ceremony style). i would start searching churches in your area and once you find one you like meet with the pastor and discuss what you have to do in order to hold your ceremony there. congrats and best of luck :-)

Pardon me, but a non-religious wedding in a church is kind of... well, illogic. If it is for the aesthetics, maybe another venue would do it (historic place, an old beautiful house, a garden...).
Actually, I do not think the church authorities would let you have a non-religious wedding at their place!

A lot of "Historic Villages" have churches that are no longer used for religious purposes that they rent out for weddings.

The first one is in NJ
The second is on the CT/MA border.

Start going to church and find a religion you are both comfortable with, marry there and don't stop going after wards.Church is just as important or more than a marriage, you should take that serious(not just to marry). You make it sound like its just a pizza place where you want to make your party at because everyone else does it.

you might want to check the wedding chapels. if you are not a member of a church they will charge you sometimes lots of money to rent it.

Hmmmm...interesting question. How can you leave God out of a God-created activity? He made us, threw away the mold, and designed the desires (and plumbing for that matter) for marriage.

I'm sure there's a way to have this sort of ceremony, but I wouldn't recommend a marriage without God being a part of it.
