My neighbor came into our yard one day and I let him know his dog has been getting into the trash, amd he told me to keep the trash in then. Is that rediculous or what? The only time our trash is outside is the night before dump day and the morning of. His dogs also go to the bathroom in our yard, and we have children around all the time playing outside. The dogs don't seem to be ugly, but do I have the right to call the dog catcher?

Yes, absolutely. I don't know the laws where you live, but, here, dogs cannot run free, and need to be on a leash when off their property.

That is rediculous! I think that if someone has a dog, they need to be a responsible, respectful owner! It doesnt matter what breed the dog is or if it is nice or not! As the dogs owner, it is your neighbors job to be responsible.. They need to take good care of their dog. Properly train it and socalize it, it needs to have food, water and shelter, and the dog should get plenty of exercise, love and attention! It is also your neighbors responsiblity as the dogs owner to be respectful.. They should have their dog under control at all times. Their dog shouldnt be running around the neighborhood going potty in other peoples yards and getting into everyones trash! The way I see it is, if you want to own a pet you have to be responsible and respectful, if you cant do that you shouldnt have a pet! Its not too much to ask. lol.. So, I would suggest that you call animal services and report them. Tell them that their dog runs around unleash and goes potty in your yard and gets in your trash! They will probably send someone out to talk to the owners and/ or give them a ticket. It depends on where you live though. Different cities and states do different things. So, I dont know.. but if I were you I would call animal services. Good luck! : )

If this is a daily thing as running loose and going potty in your yard and getting into the trash weekly, then I would go knock on the neighbor's door.

I would tell them (nicely) that you don't want their dog going potty in your yard and you don't like the dog (s) around your children while the kids are outside. And you certainly don't have to control trash or clean up after their dog. Tell them that no dog is allowed to run loose. It is against the law. They can get into a lot of trouble and that is WHY you are asking them not to allow their dog (s) to run free.

Finish it by asking if they will do that for you. If they say yes, then give them a chance. You do have to live next to them. If they are nasty and say no, then I would say, thank you and go to my house and call the police and ask them who the proper authorities are to call.

That way you didn't go behind their backs and turn them in. They had a chance and didn't comply. The going potty and getting in the trash is bad enough, but if you have children outside, you don't want a dog around that you do not know. If something happened to a child, you would never forgive yourself.

Yes! If the dog is not leashed or in a controlled supervised area and your local or state laws dictate such, call the police and make a complaint. Dog waste on your yard can also be complained about.

Leaving your trash out the night before is not illegal and the dog should not be loose to have access to it!!

If the dog is loose and on you yard call the animal control or police.

Just remember your relationship with your neighbor will deteriorate!

Please don't trust any dog that is not leashed and supervised by the owner with children!! No matter what the breed or how the dog looks!

A barking dog can be a nuisance, but so can complaining neighbors. The "dog catchers", or Animal Control , are not unreasonable. I once had a problem with neighbors who just didn't like dogs, and when we moved in, they complained constantly about my dog's barking although they never barked more than a few minutes and only when someone came by the house, and never at night because I kept them inside. The neighbors called Animal Control, they came out, saw that my dogs were well cared for, contained in my yard, and stopped barking a couple of minutes after they came to the door, asked me who the heck these neighbors were and where they lived (1/4 mile away, you could just about see their house through the trees from mine), said it was a ridiculous complaint and that they wouldn't take any more complaints from these people. Never heard from Animal Control again. Just be a responsible pet owner and you won't have anything to worry about.

Absolutely. When I find dogs running wild through the neighborhood it is usually because the owners don't realize they have escaped. That is understandable and I usually try to contact the owner to communicate this to them (so they can fix the situation in the future).
My little dog used to escape and go for car rides with strangers when we left for work. The neighbors would retrieve our dog and put her back. We didn't find out for about 6 months and were relieved when we discovered it because then we could fix the problem.
There are a lot of problems with dogs running around unattended. For one, the dog could get hit by a car.
If this jerk doesn't care that his dog is escaping than you have every right to call the dog control people. He has no business knowingly allowing his dog to mess up your yard and the garbage. Dog ownership is a responsibility not a privilage, and some people just shouldn't have them.

That depends on where you live and what teh laws are. If there is a leash law then yes but where I live no theere is no leash law the only thing I can do told to me by the dog catcher and the police is to go to the court house , pay to file a nuisance complaint and take the owner to court. but You better be able to prove it's that specific dog.
Sorryif it sounds harsh but that's what I go through every week.
i can go to the dumpsters and dump my own trash but I still have to pay a monthly pickup fee wether they pick up or not.

What I would do is tell the neighbors that if they don't clean up the mess and keep their dog out of your yard that you will call the dog catcher. If it continues, it's their loss, not yours. You SHOULD call the dog catcher if this continues.

i say you talk this over with your neighbor nicely and just in case put a brick on your trashcan and tell your neighbor that if the dog goes to the bathroom in your yard again ask your neighbor nicely to clean it up. The dog doesnt know better and its mean to send then to the pound!!!!

Yes u should, all dogs need to be on a leash or behind a fence. Letting the dogs just run like that is a crime. I would like to know what being ugly has to do with it.
