My 13 year old daughter really wants to get her cartilage piereced. (I do not have mine done) I was wondering should I take her to Claries or a Palor. Also what might happen after words with it getting infected or anything like that?

Never go to Claires ... That is the biggest mistake someone could make aside from home piercings. They aren't trained to pierce ears let alone push a hole through cartilage. A parlor will use a hollow needle which will take out the cartilage where as the piercing guns are a blunt force and that can cause infection, a lump of cartilage within her ear and it may NEVER heal all the way. I've only had my upper ones done at a piercing shop for that reason. The risk of infection if she goes to a parlor is 50 - 75% lower, less painful, and it heals faster. It's more expensive but it's safer. Call shops, see what they say about ages for when they will pierce cartilage, most will at 13 with a parents consent at the time of piercing and you are supposed to stay there for it of course. I have five and I've had two other piercings. The only ones I've had infection problems with are my lobes which I had done at Claires when I was little. Hope I helped, feel free to message me if you want more info!

** Religion has nothing to do with it and how in the hell is it mutilation to put an ear ring in the top of your ear? Come one ... how closed minded can you be? If they aren't for you then fine but don't go around hashing on the rest of us because we like them. She asked which is safer ... not for hateful spout that is incorrect and a horrible stereo type.

DO NOT GO TO CLAIRE'S FOR CARTILAGE!!! Claire's/walmart/icing all use the gun. The gun shoves a dull stud through the cartilage. It's painful. They get infected easily because they're harder to clean. My cartilage is deformed from being pierced with the gun. I had both sides done with the gun. They didn't heal after 8 months. They got infected, and I eventually took them out to change them and they closed within 30 minutes. I've had 3 piercings done by a professional piercer and it doesn't really hurt. The last one, I didn't feel it at all. They're easy to clean and care for because of the barbell or hoop. Mine healed a LOT faster than my ones from claires. The ones from claires never really healed, my others healed one in 4 months, the other two in 3 months. With infection, claires advises you to take out the piercing and go to the doctor. If it does get infected, do not take it out. The outside will heal faster than the insed, trapping puss under the skin (i know from another piercing). If it does get infected, call the person who did it and see what they say. If you decide to go to a piercer, do your homework. My mom let me get my navel pierced when I was 16 and we thought they were all the same. At the place we went to, I got an infection when it was pierced. I'm not the only one who has gotten an infection from that place from a piercing. It was infected when it was done, it wasn't something we did wrong. I've never had another piercing act the way that one did. But I'm off track. Talk to people. Don't be scared to ask questions. After that experience, we found the best place to go in my area and I've never had a problem with them. Please, do not go to claires for a cartilage piercing. They're great for earlobe, but not cartilage.

Top 5 reasons not to go to Claire's (or similar place that uses a gun):
1. Possibility of shattering her cartilage because piercing guns are not approved for use on anything other than lobes (and shouldn't even be allowed to be used for that)
2. Guns can not be sterilized, opening her up to bacterial infections (like Staph) or viral infections (like Hep C)
Check out this link (somewhat graphic, but an important read)
http://modblog.bmezine.com/2006/07/24/gun-piercing/
3. The kid holding the gun watches a short video on how to use it, that's all the training
4. Studs used in piercing guns aren't actually sharp, so the gun forces it through the ear, causing trauma leading to scar tissue (those nasty bumps people complain about)
5. Gun jewelry is cheap. The metals they use are of poor quality, usually plated with gold. None of that is good for piercings and will be big trouble for anyone with a nickel allergy or who has sensitive skin.

Take her to a professional studio. We autoclave all tools and jewlery, needles are auto-claved and single use. Needles are tri-beveled and extremely sharp, they cause less trauma to the tissue and give a less painfull piercing. Piercers train for a minimum of a year, learning sterilization, cross-contamination prevention, technique, proper jewelry materials, etc. A good studio will only use high qualtiy 316L surgical steel or titanium, less than 1% of the population will react to either of these metals (very very rarely both)

I wouldn't go to Clairs or some stand at the mall. Those guns are NOT safe or healthy and here's why:

*they can shatter the cartilage due to the force of the gun.
*even if they use disposable guns, they still are very prone to bacteria that causes infections.
*the piercer is simply an employee at a cheap jewlrey store that was barely trained.
*the earring they use is cheap and is much more prone to infection.

Even though the people at most tattoo and piercing parlour might look scarey, they are usually very professional. Here's why you should go to a parlour:

*they use steral needels that gentally make a whole in the ear.
*they are trained and go to classes for quite some time to learn their craft.
*they use good jewrely
*they make you feel comfortable and give you step by step cleaning instructions.

I'd recommend going to a tattoo parlour that does piercings. As far as aftercare I'd do whatever the piercer tells her to do. There may be a chance that her body will reject it and she may get a bump or infected where it was pierced. I had an industrial piercing and it kept getting infected. I followed the aftercare instructions but still wasn't healing so I eventually had to remove jewelry permanently.

I even have the two piercings and characteristic diverse evaluations on the two one in all them. in my view the cartilage piercings harm extra and replaced right into a extra durable therapeutic technique then the nostril. I even have 3 helix piercings and the discomfort did not final to long replaced into purely sore after the preliminary couple days and of direction the piercings themselves. My nostril piercing i myself did not have any discomfort with it. there replaced right into a splash pinch and that replaced into inquisitive approximately me it did not harm after in any respect.

Claires is okay. They're a higher chance of problems with a carliage piercing than one for an ear lobe piercing. Just keep in mind that it CAN get infected or cause ear deformaties. If an infection occurs; take her to the doctor right away (if she gets one) and you shouldn't take the stud out for I think 6-8 months and then you have to remove them but keep another stud in the old ones place as much as possible.

absolutely do not go to Claire's!!!!!!!!! untrained people. usually minors doing the work. the safest place would be a local tattoo shop that has a piercing specialist.they use only new, packaged needles, and know what and what not to do. should only cost @ 35$
