My brothers say if they find it their keeping it and if i find it their still keeping it. Im not very happy with that but i can live with it. How do we catch this rat? We see him every once in a while but he just runs away. He is seriously scaring the sh*it out of me!

There is no need to be scared. Pet rats are domesticated as dogs and friendly. This little guy is probably just really scared right now. Imagine this from his perspective, in an unfamiliar place, alone, etc.

You may need to get a humane trap, some pet stores do sell them. Otherwise when you see the rat, close all the doors to the room he is in and try and catch him. You may want to offer a small cage with food and lure him in. My rats get out a lot(back when I had a whole group they used to free run the room). Most eventually went back to the cage to sleep, eat, etc.

I would suggest a live trap. you may be able to get one to borrow.
as far as wether you keep it or not I can't say. but I will say that I've had a few and I found them not to bite except when protecting their young. They were much better than hamsters and gerbils.
So it doesn't get into what it isn't suppose to i would tell your brother to put out a bowl of food you could also try to put the food in the cage, prop the door open and try to close it when it goes in to get food.
Good Luck

tell your brothers that a wild rat can be viscious and that they don't make good pets. they aren't bred to be nice and cuddly like a pet rat. get a deep container like a tote or cooler and put something soft to land on and some food in it and then put a ramp up to the edge. make sure that it's deep enough that it can't jump straight up the edge.

What we usually do is we have this little box-thing, and inside, is this small-pet formula, so we leave it in a room where we can hear him scuttling around easily, then sneak up on him, and BAM!
Meaning, you could trap him with a fish net or trow another box over him.

Make a trap/cage with food in it. If all else fails..get a cat to kill it.

keep hi cage open with his food in it...don't leave food out for him/her to get to and he/sh SHOULD climb into it sooner or later,if not try peanut butter or yogurt on a spoon in the cage they like that
