My brother has a 1990 Toyota pickup (what became the Tacoma) which he uses for a rural paper delivery route. He just turned over 487,000 miles yesterday (I have a photo of the speedometer and odometer if you send your email address). He anticipates that he will roll over 500,000 miles in 21 months. He still has the original engine, though he has had to replace the seat twice. He is a fanatic about good maintenance, which is why it lasted - that and our other brother is a Toyota Master Technician.

My dad's 1986 Camry Hatchback has almost 440,000 km's ( = about 275,000 miles) and it's still running well. Had to replace many parts on it so far, starter, alternator parts (brushes, etc), struts, AC compressors, driver's seat, usual wear parts, ball joints... But everything major is still fine like the transmission, engine (did rings & something with cylinders, rehoned? around 200,000km, body ok. Getting rusty now though, and smokes some, gas mileage isn't as good as it used to be either.

I think more Toyotas would be driven to higher miles, but they get so old that it's not worth it to repair even the minor parts anymore like windshields, AC, tires... when the vehicle is only worth maybe $800. Spending even $1500 on another lower miles toyota would be more worth it.

Last year we had a Toyota on our lot (can't remember if it was a Camry or a Corolla) that had 1,000,000 km on it. Toyota Canada bought it from the girl for advertising. I work in the Service department, and we have lots of Camry's and Avalons that have 700,000 + km on them.

I have a Toyota Corolla 98 that has 471,762 miles and still going. I bought it from a Saturn dealer which it was a trade-in with 40,000 miles. Has the original engine and transmission. My goal is to reach half a million miles before I let it go. My twin brother had a 2001 Corolla with 311,000 miles before he got ride of his just recently. Out of Cos Cob, Connecticut.
