She is not "required to say" where he is at. Your son is a runaway, not a crime in most places, and those where it is, its on the low end of the stick. What makes you so sure she knows? I see lots of cases like this where the parents swear a gf or bf of their child knows where they are. Not saying this isn't the case here, but a lot of the ones I see, the other party really has no idea. If they do have a clue, law enforcement can't catch her in a lie without a conflicting story or other evidence. Bottom line for right now, unless your jurisdiction has other laws, there is nothing they would be able to do other than ask her... they don't have anything else to prove she is lying. We know people lie to us all the time, but we can't prove them all liars. If she was harboring a fugitive or withholding evidence to a felony offense, then yes there are other measures, but for a runaway probably not.

Since your son is on an ankle monitor and on probation and has run away, it is pretty obvious he has violated his probation. There probably is an arrest warrant out for him.
ANYONE one who helps him avoid arrest is subject to arrest themselves. All you have to do is have her state in front of a police officer or third party that she knows where he is. Then she can be arrested for aiding and abetting. Her concern for others will disappear when it is her facing jail time.
Or you can just out smart her. If she is his "girl friend" and knows where he is, just have someone follow her. She will eventually go to be with her "boy friend" and once you know where he is, just call the cops.

Anyone questioned by the police is required to co-operate, but ultimately you can't make anyone actually "talk". If the g/f is hounded enough by police or even you, she will eventually fold. The more you can be pro-active your self by questioning her or following up on other leads the faster the closure. The police will do only what manpower will allow. I used to work closely with the police and unless there's something fishy surrounding this situation, unfortunately the attention given to this matter will be small.

I'm not familiar with Texas law, but in my state of MI, a simple subpeona that the detectives could get with out a hitch in a situation like this would force the girl to testify on the location of your son. If she refused she'd be held with contempt of court.

The police cant do anything to her , no matter what she knows......if she shuts up. Its only when she opens her mouth that she can get hurt, telling differing stories.
Your stepson will eventually, if not sooner, contact you and he will try to square it up with the courts. Happens all the time. As mentioned he's low priority.

You can make her talk for if this was an illegal act, and she is a witness or information holder, she has to tell, otherwise, she may go to jail. You can make her talk to answer your question. Aiding and Abbeting is illegal. She should talk for her sake, and the sake of her boyfriend because, her boyfriend needs some help in the way he acts.

No one can make her talk if she doesn't want to. Realize that although you are under tremendous stress about this, his g/f is standing firm out of loyalty to him. Don't hate her for trying to protect him even if her "help" is misdirected. She is more afraid of hurting him than hurting you. Good luck, I am sorry you are having such a bad time.

They can charge her with oga or aiding or refusal to comply with a lawful order...if she's a minor, she can only be charged as a juvenile and its tough to prove that she "knows" where he is.
