I was recently in a car accident on May 2. I broke my fibula (closer to my ankle) in four places and my tibia right down around my ankle. I recieved surgery the very next day and have about two or three metal plates with screws in them.

I got my staples out about 6 days ago and right after that I began to get this intense cramping/tighness pain in my calf. Its not even close to my problem area which contains the plates.

I went for a vascular test today and found out that I had no clots. Does this sound like muscle cramping? What should I do? What are signs or systems of cramping?

Anything to relieve the pain would be great.....and I cant move my leg, so exercising it wont help.

When I broke my foot, I had HORRIBLE cramps in my calf - so much so you could bounce a quarter off my leg. (It was from not being able to walk properly and not using my leg.) I found that drinking two ounces of Gatorade or Powerade (mixed in water if you need to) helped IMMENSELY. It restores the electrolyte balance in your body and if low potassium or electrolytes are making your legs cramp, that should fix it.

BTW - I recommend the lime or tangerine Gatorade RAIN flavors - they're not as sweet.

Now is rehab time, you can't move it because it needs to get stronger. Yes they are cramps you are feeling. My dad had knee surgery recently and we learned Potassium is the name of the game. Bannannas are going to be your friend.

actually, muscle relaxers (and maybe some requip-for restless leg syndrome) would help tremendously. Check with your doctor.

it's probably trauma to the leg. trauma can have all sorts of nasty side effects.
