I do not like to speak ill of anyone; I do not know what is in their hearts. However, I have to look at the tragic misadventure in Iraq and all the misery that has been needlessly brought to the Iraqi people and find that to be an error other Presidents might not have committed. I have to look at taking the eye off the ball in Afghanistan, and wonder if the Taliban and Al Qaeda would have been brought to heel if the efforts and resources had remained there.

I have to look at the diminished status of the United States and its lessened ability to influence the affairs of the world, and mourn the stabilizing influence of a once powerful superpower. I have to look at the tarnished integrity of a nation that can no longer present itself as the beacon of freedom as it operates Camp X-Ray and Abu Ghraib.

It is difficult to look at this presidency, and not see a world that has taken a turn for the worse. The President is not responsible for 9/11, but he is accountable for his response to it.

The world declared that day, "We are all Americans." And the world is worse for a president who was not able to seize the solidarity the whole world felt that day.
