My husband and I took the decision to donate our 12 year old son's organs when the life support machine was switched off, after a tragic accident. We are Christians, and there is nothing to sugges that it is wrong to do so in the Word of God, the Bible. We thought how that day if anyone could have given our son a gift of life, how precious that would have been for us, and so we felt it was the right thing to do.
Our decision has been a great source of comfort to us over the years, and we find out how the recipiants are doing around about the anniversary of our son's death. To date, they are all doing well, after nine years.

I was an organ donor, I am not any longer.
My faith, has played a part in my decision to not be.
But, not to the extent that I was told or shown thru Scripture,
that it was wrong or bad or even not acceptable,
No, none of that.
It is a personal decision,
the same as when I decided to be an organ donor.
My husband, had no say in my decision either way.
I don't know how religious leaders view this, but, in my faith some medical decisions are left up to your Bible trained conscience. Like if u go to a chiropractor or not. And it is not anyone else's place to judge, the individuals decision.
It is my decision, and mine alone.

I believe it is up to the individual. When my husband passed away in 2003 (he went into a coma after a car accident we were in) I did not want to donate his organs. A few months later I watched a show on it and I did not realize that a person is kept alive to keep their organs alive. They could have told me he was brain dead, but I am glad I did not donate his organs because I would not be able to live with the thought that he may have been in some sort of pain when they took them out. Maybe I am crazy, but I can not live with that thought. That's just me.

I'm a Goddess-worshipping Pagan (and an RN). No problem with organ/tissue/body donation; it's one of the most loving things that a person can do---to pass along the chance of life.
FWIW, most of my monotheistic colleagues (Christians and Jews; don't know very many Muslims) eagerly support donations as an act of holy charity, feeling it is NOT disrespectful to the dead.
"Each day, about 77 people get the organ transplant that gives them a second chance, but 19 others die waiting for a donated organ."---source: www.organdonor.gov

I don't know that I ever would. I'm currently not a donor, just because I don't like to think about it....
my religion believes that the decision to donate is an individual one made in conjunction with family, medical personnel, and prayer. They do not oppose donation.

I can see what a wonderful thing it is to do. However after hearing some stories from a hospital I couldn't do it. My religious or non-religous views played no part in my opinion.

I think organ donation is a very honorable and nice thing to do. My religious views do not sway my opinion. It is just about being a decent human being.

I'm all for organ donation. It's not like I'll be needing them.
I'm an atheist so I have no religious views dampering my doing the right thing.

I'm an organ donor and a Pagan. I don't think one has anything to do with the other. I just want to know that when I die, something good will come of it and someone else may benefit. (Other than the payout from my insurance...)

If I am in a position to actually care what they are doing with my organs....we have a serious problem.
Yes I believe in organ donation. There can be nothing wrong with saving a life.
