If you put anything on over the tattoo while wearing pants try to get something that won't be too abrasive. You want to give the tattoo as much air as possible so it can scab up and heal faster. It usually takes about two days at the most for the bleeding to stop and for the tat to scab up. Make sure your putting some A/D ointment on to help it heal faster. Remember the colder the area of the tattoo is the faster your white blood cells are gonna want to heal that area. You could use some none stick gause and put the ointment on it and apply it to the tat and then tape it down on the ends where your new tattoo isn't so when you wear pants you can walk freely without being in pain!

I know this is long, but it's everything you need to know, I promise: 1) You should not be putting lotion on it for at least three days. Most lotions (even unscented Lubriderm) have alcohol in them which is very irritating to an open wound (a tattoo). I'm not sure where you live, but I've never heard of a tattoo artist telling someone to go home and put lotion on a new tattoo. That's horrible. Make sure you find a lotion that has NO alcohol in it. Might take some searching, but it will be best for you. 2) Wash your tattoo once per day with a soap like Dial or Softsoap, both available at the grocery store or drugstore. Make sure you wear clean clothing as new tattoos are susceptible to bacteria and infection. Clean it in the shower, blot your tattoo dry with a paper towel, and put on clean clothes. Don't rub it with a regular towel, as you may pull the ink out. 3) You can put a VERY thin layer of A & D ointment on the tattoo if you want for the first 48 hours, but it's not necessary. It's the gooey stuff they put on the tattoo before they covered it with seran wrap. 4) After 3-4 days, start using an alcohol-free unscented lotion. Put a little on a couple times a day and rub it in gently, but don't overdo it. Your tattoo will start to dry out and look kind of flaky after a few days or week. Just keep using the lotion throughout the day until your tattoo is healed. Healing takes different amounts of time for everyone. From one week to one month, depending on the size and placement of your tattoo plus your general health. If you're sick, it will take longer to heal. You can sleep on your side, but it will probably hurt. I would try not to for the first week or so. Your tattoo will most likely be fine, but try not to stretch the skin out too much because it can cause the tattoo to heal improperly. Not a huge deal on the ribs... Best of luck to you. 3)

No idea what that cling films all about. When I got my tattoos done I kept them covered for a couple of hours then after that I gotta wash and just used savlon cream 4-5 times a day. Savlon is the best and its available everywhere so its cheap too. Mine healed in about two weeks. The scab formed so quickly and didn't get sore either. Best to keep it uncovered and keep applying cream.

It has to scab over, and have the scab drop off for it to heal properly. Try taping a piece of lint dressing over the tattoo when you wear trousers, but make sure you let it get plenty of air when you are at home. It will have scabbed over, and healed in about two weeks. And don't worry, you won't do any damage to it either!

When I had my tattoo on my lower back I would wear a long tee shirt out and leave my pants unbuttoned and rolled down some that way nothing really ever rubbed it. Not the neatest look but it wasn't for long and I wanted my tattoo to get air and heal right.

Best thing to do is call the shop that did your tatoo... ususally they give you somekind of cream to put on it for a week or so after you get the tat. Try this... get some Large gause pads big enough to cover your tat and some medical tape. put the gause over the top of your tattoo and secure it with the tape so your pants won't rub directly on it. or you should try to wear higher wasted pants for a few days.... not to worry they have higher waist pants that don't look like granny pants.

i have 3 and w/all of my tattoos i did the same thing. i've had them for 3 years and still don't need a touch up. instead of lotion use a&d ointment it keeps the tattoo moist and it makes the colors really stand out apply as needed NEVER let your tat dry out it can crack the skin and it can cause u to loose some of the ink u can still do everyday activities and you can still sleep on that side. don't wear fitted clothes or sweaters it could get stuck to your tat n literally pull the ink out. it may be sore for the next couple days it may itch too. try not to scratch it cuz it can pull out the ink just use more a&d (a lil bit goes a long way) hope i was some help

Do not use clingwrap! This will keep the tattoo soft and will mess it up by not healing properly. You want to let it "air out" as much as possible and keep A & D ointment on it to reduce scabbing.

You should let it breathe as much as possible, covering it in cream or the clingfilm stuff doesn't let the scab form properly.

don't cover it with anything that is non porous. when i had my tattoo worked on and it was being rubbed by my pants i wore a longer shirt that i could tuck into my pants that way there was a buffer and the patns didn't rub it. try that and see if it will work out for you.
