If you put a lightbulb in a microwave would it light up before it got to the point of exploding..anyone? :)

yes they do but make sure the metal part of the bulb is under water. They light through the excitation of the small amount of gas in them rather than via the filament

See if this confuses u even more. Find a small florescent tube about 12 in long and put it in the microwave with a glass of water. the water and light are not connected . Now turn it on a minute or so,don't get things very hot . The florescent tube will light.

works with an incandescent lamp as well in a glass with an 1" water in the bottom.
can be used to find hot spots in the oven.

I've got one in mine and it lights up every time I open the door or set it going.
