I placed an order, and was charged for the entire amount. One of my items was on backorder. It has been on backorder for over a month, yet I was charged for this item. They have said they will credit me, if I don't want it, but still I have $50.00 that I should not have been charged for.

Orders are charged when they are placed to make sure that you have available credit to buy the item.
If an item has not shipped you need to request a refund for that item at this time if you are cancelling. If you still want the item, the charge will stay even if it has not shipped in most cases.
I bought a dishwasher last year at labor day, it took 6 weeks to get installed due to problems with the first one delivered was broken. I was still billed even though I did not have the item.
Contact the vendor and see about getting the non-shipped item refunded.

Very simply, YES.
It depends on the merchant.
If one item is backordered it is not uncommon to charge the full amount. If it is fully charged and shipped less one item, the backordered item will likely be shipped with no additional charge.
If they don't charge for the item, then there is a good chance you will incur additional shipping charges.

Some merchants will charge as soon as you order ONE item which isn't shipped for a week or more - it may even be backordered. There is usually no reason for that and if you don't ask you won't know till it has been done. If it is a special order or pre-order then that is different.

Yes, about 99% of the time this happens. The companies want to assure that the credit goes through before they ship.

Companies are in serious business and don't really have time for "customers" who cannot make up their mind whether they want something or not. Cancellations after ordering involve expense on the vendor's side. It is unlikely you will get your money back as you cannot prove you have not used the game

Yes,

Call your CC company and dispute the charge tell them you have not received a product or refund. Do it right away.

Yeah they do it all the time unfortanatly.

Legally there is probably nothing wrong with it, BUT, they legally would have to give you your money back if you changed your mind in the mean time.
