I tell them to get over themselves.

I have a "friend" like that and although I know her heart is in the right place ..it does get annoying... It has affected our relationship and I am sad to say that recently our other friends have been getting sick of it too. We have stopped having meaningful conversations with her... and when we need a good laugh we usually say something just because we know she has a response..and then laugh. Unfortunately you will not change her... so the only thing to do is to either love her as she is and deal with it or go your separate ways.

I just say, "that's nice." Or, "Hmm. That's an interesting point of view."

Maybe when they start telling you something in a know-it-all tone you could ask them how they would like you to respond.

"Are you telling me this because you want to know my opinion on the subject? Or do you just want me agree with you? Or is it just because you like to talk, which is fine. I was just wondering."

I tend to be too opinionated and if someone gently pointed out that I was carrying on a one-sided conversation I would probably respond well.

Also, is this a young person? A lot of time younger people haven't yet learned the amazing power of listening.

If they are "always right"...

Learn from them!

Just because they maybe 'different' and rub you the wrong way, if they are always right, then "they" are the ones that you should learn from.

Sure, they may have a 'swelled head', knowing that they are right, and hard to take, but, would you rather take directions from some one who is friendly and is mostly wrong? I wouldnt. I want what ever knowledge that fella has and as quick as I can!

I wish you well....

Jesse

You come back with a debate that makes them look stupid! Yeah, I know the type...kinda like the ones that you have in a class or a meeting that just won't shut up. You could get out of your meeting early if they just wouldn't keep putting in their two cents worth that doesn't mean crap to you and most likely everybody else. Sorry...still frustrated over a meeting that ran late because of those exact people...Monday!

I have the best way is to ignore them. Because no matter what you say they will have a comment. I have a brother-in-law that is that way and I try to stay away from him as much as possible. He drives me nuts. If that don't work, then you can try to prove them wrong in some way. That is to say have proof in black and white so they can't argue with you.

I have a friend like this and his has ruined the friendship to the point where I cancel plans with her cause the thought of sitting there listening to her opinions make me want to die. I am trying not to hang out with her anymore--and this is a friend of 11 years!!

My mother-in-law is a bit of a know-it-all. At first, I would contend with her, even prove her wrong. But I realized that by doing so, it only upset her more. Now, I just listen to her and let her speak her mind. It's much less stressful when you just let it roll off of you.

The problem with people who always think they are right, is when you try to talk to them about how friggin annoying it is, they will not agree with you....because they think they are always right. It is a lost cause, trust me.

Sometimes you have to ignore them and still keep the pace with what you are doing. In the end, their "know it all" attitude will catch up with them 1 way or the other.

You have to handle the situation carefully.

I have these friends, and the best thing to do (I've found) is to let them finish and then say something along the lines of "I appreciate your knowledge, but I would really like to hear what ____ has to say."
