Heres what I think;
Mark 10:17 ¶ And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
:18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God.
1. He ran and kneeled before him, so was the Young Ruler making a public Display? 2. he call Jesus good. And asked "what must { I } do. Jesus replied why do you call me good there is none good but God. So was he trying to establish that "ALL" mankind need a Savior, not there own merit....next..
19.Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
20 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
1. why did Jesus only mention these commandments? could they be the ones the Young Ruler broke? 2. wait till I finish to answer I ran out of space.

2. the young Ruler answered, that he kept them. was this self righteousness, I mean everyone has told a white lie at least. ( I would have cried out no one can keep the commandments, forgive me Lord)
Was Jesus trying to provoke him to repentance?
3.verse 21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
he still loved him (and us) inspite of our down falls)
This is just my thought was he saying..well if your so good give up evrything and come with me I can use a man like you?
4.And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions
what do we let get in our way of Jesus? I don't think Jesus wanted his money but his heart.
what do you think?

1)The ruler was seeking truth. The ruler addressed Jesus as Master because he knew that Jesus had the truth.

2)Yes, He's trying to establish that ALL mankind need a Savior. The ruler acknowledged that Jesus was good, the next step was to see that Jesus is God.

3)It would take a long time to go through all of the commandments in the OT, wouldn't it?

the RYR knew about it and yet like most, did not believe or opted not to believe; the RYR wanted eternal life his other option he know of at this point therefore his question: how to gain eternal life. Most know there is a hell but they opt not to believe that a caring and loving God could create a place like it; God did not create hell for ppl, it was created for the devil and those that do not believe or accept Jesus will end there too just look at the answers--disbelief and hate. One last thing: Christians talk about 'Jesus tells him to give away all his possessions and follow him (the contention is give up the world) . The RYR cannot do this. If Christians are really supposed to believe in eternal damnation and threaten/warn people about it, why didn't Jesus do so there? So you agree that Christians are on a "mission"--to "tell him"(others), "believe in eternal damnation and threaten/warn ppl about it' so why are nonbelievers against this 'mission' and what is their contribution to society--to 'threaten/warn ppl about it---hell or dissuade society? No one needs enlightenment from those that hate. Just saying

He was trying to show that someone who was materialistic would not be a suitable servant of God. He said as much later in the same chapter that it would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it would be for a rich man to partake in the kingdom of God.

He is telling us that without God....no one can enter the kingdom....especially on works.

But with God....the impossible (salvation by works) has been made possible (grace by the resurrection of Christ)

1) He was telling him that keeping the law will not save a person

Wait until you finish cause you ran out of space? I am cracking up over here. I spit all over my monitor . . .

anyway . . . Jesus was trying to teach him that he was in love with his money. There is nothing wrong with being rich. But if it has that much of an important place in your heart, you lose out.

That he loves money more than life and that money was his god. Abhorring the first commandment.
