While there is no authenticated account detailing what Christ looked like, a few descriptions and images surfaced during the centuries after his death purporting to detail his features, among them the Shroud of Turin and the Veil of Veronica — both supposedly imprinted with the physical likeness of Christ's face.

Another is a letter that surfaced about 1,000 years ago and was attributed to a man named Publius Lentulus, who claimed to have been a contemporary of Jesus. He supposedly wrote to the Roman Senate detailing a very literal description of Christ's face — "brown, shoulder-length hair, large eyes — some versions say blue eyes — a long sunken face, very solemn and serious, with a short, cropped beard. If you look at a lot of pictures, that's exactly what he looks like."

Of course the letter was written after the visual tradition was already established, with the idea of authenticating it.

The artistic representations of Jesus Christ are mostly inaccurate. During the Renaissance, the "ideal" of all those European artists was something that got depicted, even in religious works. So Mary had blonde hair, blue eyes, and was very round and plump...ideal female figure of the time. And Jesus had long, brown hair, and fair skin. The imagery changes slightly based on the timeperiod of the paintings.

His actual physical looks would have been consistent with other people of his ancestry and residence: like the Jews living in that area at that time. My guess is that they were medium-dark skinned, with dark hair. But honestly, I'd have to look that historical info up to be certain.

Peace.

There is no evidence whatsoever that Jesus was a blue eyed blond hair super model =) He was not from Holland =) Jesus, being from the middle east, probably most likely had those characteristics, olive skinned, dark eyes and the like.

I think people of different races see Jesus in the way they want to see him. I don't think there is a right or wrong way to see him. I don't think we are supposed to bring up his physical attributes when talking about him. In fact I think the bible even references that there was nothing special about him that we would take any notice of him.

But rather is it the way you feel about him in your heart, and the things you learn from him daily.

Good luck to you.

J.

That image was created by the Catholic church to encourage white non-Christians to become Christians. There is no proof, but here's my logic behind how I think he looked:
-He was probably about 5' 8". No one is 6' 2" and has a glowing complexity about them.
-He probably looked just like the other Hebrews. That's why they got mad when He said that He is God.
-Dark skin, dark eyes, and dark hair. It's just how people from the region look!

The bearded white flowing robe image of Jesus comes from latter Roman Empire images of Jupiter. Jesus probably looked like a typical Jew of the day, whatever that was.

None. He is shown that way because that's who's in control of society basically. They've shown Jesus in their image. The real Jesus was a jew who lived in the desert. He probably had dark hair, eyes and brown skin.

The artists painted Him as they saw Him, if they were caucasian, He then became caucasian. If you notice, in black churches, He becomes black. He was a Jew, from the line of David. Not blonde and blue-eyed, not oriental, not black, Jewish. Not that it matters anyway.

Artistic license. How many blue eyed Jews have you seen. He was probably brown eyed, brown hair. His hair was long because he belonged to the Nazarene tradition, first born son dedicated to God, like unto Samson.

Do you suppose there were any blue eyed Caucasians in northern Africa 2000 years ago?

We sort of like our Savior to look like what we would like a Savior to look like. Being a Semitic Jew in Roman times, being a brown-eyed short persons with possibly curly brown hair just doesn't cut it. Just remember the South Park episode when Satan goes up to speak with God - who is a Cow!
