Well I dont always answer with bible scriptures.
Sometimes I do if it is directly related to a question asked.
As far as using a scripture to debate with someone on the subject of the bible not being real, well that would seem pointless to me.
The bible is not the word of God...........the word of God is the word of God.....and you are right it looses meaning when people misquote it or quote the pieces they want while leaving out the other. But more than that, the bible is just words on a page, unless its in a believers heart then it becomes alive.
LOL , I HAD TO LAUGH WHEN I READ THE WORDS
this is not JUST an attack.................hehe....
Thanks for the question this is all just my humble opinion.

Actually the Bible is highly accurate. The Smithsonan Institute states that it is a "highly accurate historical document". If you go back to the Greek and Hebrew you will find that the King James is a translation that can be trusted. The Interlinear Bible is a good source of reference as is Strongs concordance to check the translation. The reason that christians quote from this source is to give proof of the truth they speak. I would question the people that don't offer proof not the ones that do. The Bible itself tells us to translate in a plain straight forward manner-unless it is using figurative language such as I saw in a vision two great beasts....Then one needs to only search the others books of the Bible to derive the meaning. Read it for yourself then decide.

First, The Bible of The True Christian Faith is not for the non-believer. Second, there is no innerant text of The Bible existant today. The Original text given to the original scribes, by God, were lost long ago.... the "translation" issue is way too big to be debated here on YA... needless to say there are some, such as the so-called Message so-called bible, that are abominations...
The Bible dose not prove God or it's self... God proves The Bible to those who are open to His leading through The Holy Spirit. Only those open to God's leading will find what He has for them there.... The Salvation Message has been kept pure as it is kept in the hearts, placed there by God, of those of The True Faith

"Always" and "never" really distance you from sounding like you're "just wondering" BTW
Not an attack - just some feedback
And, I actually seldom "quote" the Bible because, as you suggest, the best anyone can do is paraphrase. However, it is the inspired (ie Spirit filled) Word of God and as such is good for the education of Christians everywhere.
Blessings

We have over 26000 fragments, stones, manuscripts, scrolls, codex's, pieces or whole ancient Bibles that are used to verify the accuracy of the Bible.
Yes, there is bad revisions and translations out there, but we know which ones they are because we have the older codex's and such.
Either way, God allows the bad ones because the truth that leads to everlasting life, can be found in them also.
We know the bad ones because of the contradictory nature.
No, we use the Bible because it is not questionable in nature. We use it because it is indeed the Word of God.

Christians quote the bible for the same reason that students run to wikipedia for 'infallible' answers. It's an easy source and provides quick support for their opinion.
EVERY work translated from different languages looses something in the translation. In the original Hebrew there are words that have multiple meanings. Translators had to pick one (usually the masculine) when they were translating the Bible into new languages.

Well as for me the Bible is my basic instruction before leaving earth and it gets me through some rough as well as joyous times so I just share the knowledge that I read and learn to others......and for your second question......I have no idea idea if the Bible was altered in any kind of way but my main concern as a christian is to trust and believe in God and that he has a son and his name is Jesus and that he died for my sins.........and live a life that is acceptable in his sight.......simple as that.....all the other stuff is complicated and will cause confusion if we dwell on it :).....I hope this answered your question :).

If someone wanted to quote Egyptian history....wouldn't they take a line from an Egyptian history book?

For one thing, specific religion aside, the Bible is the observations of people over thousands of years, and their experiences parallel those of today. In how many families do you find that the eldest son lacks positive characteristics of younger sons? Yet, almost the entire Book of Genesis involves this situation.
