There are a few home remedies that I know work.

Take 10 aspirins. Dissolve in enough water to just cover(takes about 30min to dissolve). Make into a paste and divide hair and put on scalp. Let sit for about 10 to 30min. Then wash and style hair as normal. This gets a quick result for me.

Massage apple cider vinegar into scalp. Let sit at least 10min. Then wash hair as normal.

Use a mouth wash like Listerine and massaging into scalp. Let sit for 10-30min. It will tingle a bit. Then wash and style hair as normal. Works just as well as the aspirin.

Apply tea tree oil (which can be purchased at health food or natural food stores) to scalp. It kills the bacteria that is causing the dandruff. Takes a little bit of time, but it does work.

depends on which part of the country you live in. Sunlight helps (like when you go out to get a tan). Dandruff is caused by too little humidity, so maybe buy a humidifier, maybe change your shampoo (to a less strong one), maybe oil your skin (on the scalp) every once in a while, or don't use the heater in your room or hairdryer so much. When I lived in the midwest I had dandruff. Then I moved to Florida, and ouila, no more dandruff (Florida has the sun and it's humid here).

I had really bad dandruff and I was using Head & Shoulders but it just was not getting any better. Turns out it was drying out my scalp and my hair even more! I went to Ulta and got the best shampoo and conditioner (I thought) with the most hydrating agents in it. My dandruff it completely gone. I haven't had any problems at all. The shampoo/conditioner is called S Factor by TIGI. It smells yummy too!

I started using moisturizing shampoo & it worked great! It keeps my oil glands from working over time like they always did before & I haven't had a problem since. I also use a clarifying shampoo once a week or so to get rid of the buildup. I tried the dandruff shampoos & they made my hair dryer & scalp flakier & my head itched. Good luck!

I've always had good luck with Neutrogena's T-Gel shampoo. It contains coal tar and has a strong odor that some people don't like. I usually follow it with my own shampoo and conditioner to minimize the odor. If I use it every other day for a week, my dandruff is usually gone.

A product I just found that doesn't require a Rx on the shelf at Walgreens is a shampoo Nizoral. This will do the trick, I promise.
