Aero is more challenging than Mech and there is a much smaller market for us Aero Engineers. That said, if you study hard and are able to seperate yourself from the pack, you will have many more opportunities to move into lead engineer positions. You will also start out at a slightly higher salary than ME's. I started at 80k with my Aero MS in California.

Definitely Mech enggrs have an edge over aerospace enggrs, mech engineers can work in a broad spectrum of industries, but aerospace is a specific and focussed subject whereas mech covers subjects taught in Aerospace. But it depends, if u want to work only in the aerospace industry better go for Aerospace engg. , but it would be tough if not impossible for an Aerospace enggr to switch jobs and get employed in an industry, say Oil & Gas, Manufacturing etc. So it entirely depends on your interests.

it's easier to go for mechanical if you're undecisive because if you do change your mind in the future, you can always go to aerospace. not the other way around.

Many more employment opportunities for mechanical engineers, and fewer layoffs.
When it comes time to get your professional license it will have to be in mechanical anyway, no matter which you choose.
