I was thinking of getting my 8 month old baby a tattoo of something cute a fuzzy. Do you think it would be ok? I heard they didn't hurt any worse that ear piercings so I figured it would be ok, especially sense she's so small and the tat wouldn't be that big.

Thanks spink. At least you can see what's what with common sense. I posted this question for a laugh. People are crazy about stuff.

I'm also curious to know how many people that are highly opposed to a baby getting a tattoo are pro-choice. Just a thought.

I am crazy, BTW. Either way, tattoo or abortion, a baby is having a needle stuck in its body unwillingly.

I just want to comment on the "how many pro choice people are opposed to a baby getting a tattoo." Please don't tell me you think the two situations are the same. How ridiculous. A mother's choice to get an abortion is about self determination and control of your own body...it has no relation to being allowed to torture a baby once it is born.

I hate when people try to write clever questions to seem like they're smarter than everyone but they're completely inane.

Sorry but thats just crazy!!! Ear piercings are different because they are temporary and small and NOT PERMANENT!! And yes they do hurt just as much but thats not the point. Why will you do something to your child's body that they can do nothing about. And I highly doubt that any sane tattoo artist would tattoo your baby.

Think about how a tattoo on an adult looks when they gain weight -- they get stretched and smeared and blurry.

Now, think about how much growing your child has in front of her -- do you want her to have a blurry blob on her body when she's in kindergarten? Or as a teenager when she begins to date? Or as a bride with a lovely gown? Or an expectant mother which a growing tummy?

If you want to decorate her for YOUR enjoyment, stick to a temporary alternative -- earrings, henna tattoo (after checking for allergies). Temporary tattos that wash off after a few days, whatever. Let HER decide what art she would like permanently on her body.

Consider that your tattoos are YOUR choice. What if your parents had decided that it would be 'cute' to brand you with a symbol that is against your beliefs now?

I'm pretty sure you have to be 18, at least in my state (Georgia). I got one after I turned 18 AND I had a parent with me, but they still photocopied my liscense and made me sign some stuff. You could probably find someone to do it...but yeah, it hurts (and takes a little longer than an ear piercing, which they usually ice to make it numb, etc). Maybe wait until they are old enough to pick one out themselves and sign the waiver

I think thats an awful thing to do to a baby when they have no control over what you're doing.

It's not like an ear piercing at all. You can take that out and it will heal up. With a tattoo, it's there for life.

I dont mean to sound mean and harsh but you really have to give it some thought.

I'm not sure it's legal anyway.

God no! An ear piercing is a 1 second sting. Tatoos take time...it'll be torture for a baby. And she won't sit still for it.

Not to mention that she should get to make decisions about her own body art. What if she grows up all tough and 'Angelina Joley' and doesn't WANT something cute and fuzzy? Just another thing she'll blame you for when she's a teenager...lol.

Seriously...don't do it. Try some of the temp tats. They won't hurt and you can change them whenever you want.

and what will you do if the baby grows up to hate tattoos? its something you should let the child decide by itself when its older, not really a decision for you to make. and when it is still so small, its definitely not healthy to stick a needle into your baby and fill its skin with ink. it will also look sort of silly when it is older and its skin has grown/ stretched with the tattoo..

I understand you posted this as a matter of curiosity but there are actually people out there who consider things like this. Personally I wouldn't even pierce my kids ears. One I couldn't bare to put them in pain, vaccinations is my limit. But also it's their body, what if they didn't want holes in them when they're older? When my girls turned 10 I gave them the choice and one still wears hers and the other doesn't, but I'm glad I gave them the choice of what to do with their bodies.

Please don't tattoo your baby. It hurts a lot worse tahn getting your ears pierced (Im speaking from experence I have 12 tattoos and my ears pierced there is no way those experences feel the same) plus when your child gets older they may be mad at you for even getting a cute fuzzy tattoo on them. Think of your child. Why put them through pain that doesn't have to happen? I have a child and he is 7 there is no way I would put him through that pain for the heck of it.

Getting a tattoo doesn't hurt, but you might want to at least wait until the baby is old enough to make their own decision. A tattoo is something for life, and they should be involved in the decision making.
