Meat is a usually a little more expensive at independent butchers but the quality is usually better> It costs more because of the overhead of the independent. Also if you are unhappy the independent will be willing to listen etc.
I find the taste and quality (bone and by product content ) to be better at independent. An independent also will do special cuts for you. Also some groceries etc. get their meats pre cut, shipped in already packaged (Wal Mart). Some people do not realize this. .
One local meat market here has the best grain feed Angus beef ground for hamburgers etc. I have ever tasted.
Also small businesses are fast disappearing in our country because of the big guys, any support for the small business owner is a plus(just my opinion).Hope this helps

A bit more expensive at the butcher shop. Supermarket butchers get paid by the company. A stand alone butcher shop has a lot of overhead so they have to tack on higher margins. But the meat is fresher and better, and you pay for it!

It's generally a little more expensive, but generally you know where the meat is coming from, many are now organic and a true butcher will be able to cut the meat the way you like it. You see all thse recipes with butterflied, deboned, fillied, etc. A good butcher will be able to do this for you.

It is generally more expensive, but you usually get better quality, assuming it is a good butcher.
