I am american and have been with my fiance for over 5 years now and we have a 2 year old together. We have been working on getting him legal for a year now, its called 'Petition to my Fiance' and we are going to mexico in July for an interview, which will get him the K-1 Visa.

With all the new laws going on with immigration, will this affect us in any way? Or are the new laws totally different from what i am doing with getting him legal? I heard that illegals will have to pay back taxes. My fiance has paid taxes ever since he's been in America, will this affect him at all?

I would just like to know when this Amnesty thing is going to happen, will it be very soon, in a couple of months, weeks?

Any advice would help, thanks.

i am here to ask a simple question, i have already been to the website, i guess im just going to take the risk and go to mexico, we'll see what happens...

thanks for your input and calling my fiance a criminal...for someone to be here in america for 10 years, works very hard for this country, doesnt get paid much, does not do/sell drugs, pays his TAXES (which is a big problem with immigration) and has not ONCE ever broke the law, other than coming to this country.

But yet, you still want to call him a 'criminal'

just proves the ignorance in this country.

Amber, under current law, your husband is actually in breach of the law. I am not trying to be nasty in any way, merely state fact. If you are trying to correct the legal status of your husband, continue doing so until anything changes. The proposal before congress will take a LONG time to go into effect if it ever does (which i doubt it will). There is ALOT of opposition to the bill in congress so whatever it is now is not what it will be in the future.
Good luck!
PS: before you become disgusted with the people in the US "hating" illegals, understand that for as many good people like your that are here, there are many many more who are causing hardship to citizens. I used to make money roofing, I can no longer compete with businesses that use illegal labor.

I don't know but you should check out the immigration and naturalization website.

Why do you want a criminal for a husband? He's in the US illegally, that by definition makes him a criminal.

Why are you aiding and abetting someone committing a crime by supporting someone's being in the US illegally?
