WIndows Media Player already plays most of the standard video file formats. I fyou have a format that WMP will not play, you need to convert it to either mpg, avi or wmv format. Without knowing that format it is currently in, I can not recommend a specific program.
Go to http://download.com and search for a convert. Say you want to go from "ogg" to "avi", search for "ogg to avi", and it should show you one or more free programs for doing it.

go to download.com and get a converter, or play the video and save it.
