Although tow line separation is blamed for the majority of parasailing accidents that are reported. Most accidents are the result of:
O Operating in poor weather conditions.
O Flying at high altitudes.
O Inadequate or lack of safety instructions.
O Flying in close proximity to shoreline / objects.
O Water landings in high winds and/or rough seas.
O Faulty or Unsafe Equipment.
O Tow Line Popping.
O Equipment Failure.
O Inexperienced Crew.

Annually, over 40 parasailing accidents occur in American waters, and many more overseas. Such accidents injure hundreds and have killed at least 15 people over the past decade. Unbelievably, there is little government regulation or oversight of the industry. No inspections are required of boats, parasails, or other associated equipment.

Safety experts recommend asking plenty of questions before deciding to take a parasailing excursion. Try to determine the operator's experience and safety record. Inform the operator of your desire not to sail at an altitude that exceeds 500 feet, as wind conditions above this height are difficult to predict. In addition, emphasize that you do not wish to fly close to objects such as buildings, bridges, or other parasailers. Some operators carelessly approach such structures in an attempt to give riders a "thrill." Never parasail on an excessively windy day.

That about sums it up!

Nothing is risk-free these days though and you are taking a risk by walking across the street to get milk. Parasailing is WAY fun and the benefits outweigh the consequences a billion to one!!!

i went para sailing once and it seemed very safe, if i were u i would just check out the people and see about licences and stuff and ask some questions about how many ppl theyve taken out and how long they ve been doing it i mean as long as the boat is moving and the sail is up ur not really in danger i would just look at their tow ropes if ur really worried because if they snapped u would just fall in water wheich isnt that bad so its a pretty safe sport i think

yes it's safe. Yes there are sharks anywhere in the ocean. They even are just feet from the shore sometimes, but even if you get dipped in the water your chances of getting attacked are very slim. They just dip you for a minute then pull you back up. You will be fine.
