I get them all the time and I can tell you straight up that they don't pay any attention to what your body looks like, they are used to seeing all different kinds of people and its their job! You need to make sure you shave and exfoliate before you go, and you can't wear any makeup, deoderant, or perfume (this might counteract with the tan). Make sure you pay special attention to exfoliating around your elbows and knees. When you get there you will be given usually a disposable g-string (or you can wear your own underwear) and they will make you stand with your legs slightly apart and arms outstretched and spray it onto you. They will direct you if you need to move. They will then usually dry you down with a hairdryer or something similar. The whole process takes about 15 mins. Try not to wear a bra or tight fitting clothing after it to ensure it doesnt rub off. You need about 6-8 hours for the tan to develop completely (don't have a shower in this time). If you moisturise your skin every day it should last about a week or a week and a half. It looks very natural and don't worry about being a little bit tanned before you go, it really doesn't matter. I had an event to go to last winter and I was sooooo pasty white but it turned out beautiful and natural looking as always. Have fun!

It's better to take a shower that morning and go to the tanning salon without make-up on your face or other lotions. Various cosmetics can have an adverse reaction to tanning and can actually make you burn or prevent you from tanning at all.

If you are tanning during the day, make sure you remove your make-up and then reapply. I would wait 6-8 hours to shower after you tan. If you shower right away, you may not have the same tanning effect. On the days that you decide not to tan, make sure that you are using lotion. When you tan, make sure that you use lotion specific to tanning beds and not the sun. Never use oils, etc. in a tanning bed. Be sure to tan gradually starting with about 5 minutes and moving up depending on how fair your skin is. Be careful and know all of the side effects.

RE:
Is it better to take a shower before or after going tanning (at a salon) or does it matter?

I asked the same question at the salon I go to and they said shower either 2 hours before tanning or 2 hours after. I don't really think it matters before or after. You might get sweatty and some tanning products will make your skin smell funny, maybe wait until after.

definately exfoliate and shower before...but do it at least a few hours before. i read today in a magazine that its good to shower in the morning and then go to tanning salon at night not long before you go to bed so you wont already shower that night. and dont use srubs after tanning, the color will come off and u'll be streaky.

You should wait 2-3 hours before of after because when you shower before you wask away all of the oils on your skin which drys you out(moist skin tans better). After you tan your sking continues to tan up to two hours washing stops the effect.

It is good to exfoliate your skin before tanning so your skin is completely clean and fresh for the new rays. I always get a shower after though cause my lotion is kind of sticky and I don't really like the smell of burnt skin.
