Gay and lesbian people serve publically and productively and demonstrate incredible bravery and receive honors in the militaries of the UK, Canada, Netherlands and many other developed Western countries.
But like with everything else, the USA has to be the one dragging behind the rest of the world. Ironically because we have the largest army we probably also have the largest number of gays and lesbians in it, serving in silence and fearing for their lives if they are ever outed.
