All mammals drink their own specie's milk. Whale's milk is made for whales. Horse's milk is made for horses. Human's milk is made for humans. Cow's milk is made for cows.

Don't you think it's very very weird that we drink cow's milk and think it's ok and not other animals (or even our own)?

I think if we are drinking cow's milk, it should not gross you out that I want to try whale's milk.

I am grossed out by that...to the point where I don't drink cow's milk at all. Not only are we (humans) stupid for believing that another species' milk is okay for us to consume, but we also drink it long after our growing stage.
That's just wrong on so many levels!
::EDIT:: Yikes. All these folks are talking about a human not having a long supply of milk...are they not seeing that maybe there's a reason for that?! Maybe we're not supposed to drink milk past our infant stage. Other animals don't do that. And they grow up to be just fine. As for the poster who "trusts" that milk has "everything we need b/c the cows are fed properly" that the biggest load of BS I've ever heard. Cow's milk is nutritionally bankrupt to humans. Vitamins and minerals such as D and calcium are added AFTER it is pumped and collected. There is more crap in cow's milk that will make us sick than meets the eye. wwww.milksucks.com tells the truth.

It's a cultural thing, and has nothing to do with the quality of human milk versus cow's milk, or pasteurization.

Think about the ambivalent attitude about breastfeeding we Americans have. On one hand, breastfeeding is highly encouraged, but only for the first year of a child's life, and then, not in public. (Women have been kicked off airplanes because they were not sufficiently covered, according to the stewardesses).

But, if we see a child over the age of one breastfeeding, the cultural reaction is one of "eewwwwww."

Women's breasts are not just a source of nutrition, after all, but a source of sexual stimulation (both for men and women).

Further, it is difficult for most women to expel milk... it takes a lot of work to get a few ounces with a breast pump. With much less work, one can obtain a gallon or more of cow's milk or goat's milk.

Cows eating their mothers milk is common to cows through fact they see it achieved each and every of the time. If we've been to drink or see human beings eating human milk extra frequently than it would replace into extra & extra common and the grossness might die off on an identical; if no longer quicker fee.

First of all, because humans are consumers of other animals milk. If you think about it humans are no different than any other animal, we only drink the milk of our mother until we can survive without it. We are just smart enough to "farm" other animals for what we like to eat & drink. Plus, women make a lot less milk than cows. Can you imagine the number of women we would have hooked up to breast pumps in factories. Seems inhumane huh ; ) Also, human breast milk has more colostrum than cow milk, while cow mild contains more vitamin D. We can monitor the food and nutrients that a cow gets daily to assure that the milk is full of the nutrients that we need. Would you trust a human who could possibly, drink, smoke and do drugs before she goes out to pump? I guess the true answer is that cows and goats are a lot more trustworthy than humans.

Society kills me.....some people can be very narrow minded. And our upbringings usually place burdens on us; leading us to what's right and what's wrong, okay or gross, etc. But the question is; "What is rational in your mind and coincides with your own personal happiness?" Who care's what others think, if it makes you happy and of course, is not detrimental to you health and the health of others, then do it......
If you want to try milk from every mammal that walks this earth, then you go right ahead.....h*ll I might even ask you to describe how it taste, or even share a sip. I love your inquisitiveness. My conclusion, if you like whale's milk, and have the funding, then open a dairy farm that specializes in whales milk and cheeses. Most likely, you're gonna have to get a custom made swimming pool and move to Wisconsin to accomodate Willy.

i see where you are coming from, that is a good question. i mean if human milk was purified it would be similar to cow milk. however humans dont have an endless supply of milk. i guess its just though of as gross because people would be drinking milk from their own kind instead of an animal that cant talk

Good, sound argument right there. I have never heard of horse's milk, although it must exist. Now I'm curious as to what it tastes like, but not that curious. Goat's milk seems a little more popular.

Human milk is for human babies.

Cows milk is for cow's babies, but since they have been bred (by humans) to make much more milk than the calf needs, we have turned them into producers for us. Also sheep (pecorino Romano cheese), goats, camels, mares, yaks, water buffaloes (real, authentic, mozzarella cheese is from water buffalo milk), and any number of other animals are milked for human consumption.

We don't "farm" people to produce milk for us, though there are breast milk banks, where lactating women donate milk for babies who need it.
