The Mormon Church no longer practices polygamy. It was removed as a practice back in 1890. Some fundamentalists still practice, but if they do, they are excommunicated from the Mormon Church.

The mormon fundamentalist church separated from the 'official' mormon church. Mormon polygamists sill exist and own and run small cities (such as Colorado City, AZ) where polygamy is practiced and accepted.

But- it's much worse than that. The community leaders, often old men, have dozens of wives, the youngest of which are typically in their mid teens- and have no choice. It's semi legalized rape of young girls.

Since polygamy is illegal, none are officially 'wives' and therefore are all 'unwed mothers' and live off of welfare. Places like Colorado City have, by far, the highest rate of public assistance anywhere in the country.

Read the book by John Krakower, "Under the Banner of Heaven". your jaw will drop.

There is a "Thus saith the Lord" in their book of Doctrines and Covenants section 132 a revelation direct from God. And there is a "inasmuch as laws have been enacted by Congress" in that same book as a Official Declaration because the church wanted Utah to become a state. Which do you think they should support? In heaven, but not on earth. That goes for main branch, fundies, and all others.

Only the fundies actually PRACTICE it, but ALL mormon denominations BELIEVE in it.
